my name is frank obrien new orleans la.my bad experience started on febuary 2002 when my transmission went out suddenly,i took my car to aamco when jay a former employee there told me i needed another transmission then he gave me a price of $17233.00 which at the time we could only borrow $1500.00 so that left a balance of $233.00 well he (jay)did let us pay the rest in monthly installments because i did explain to him i only get a monthly disability check.

i had a remaining balance of $133.00 when I called on november 12,2002 to tell them my transmission had went out again.this time a talked to pete.on nov.14 i called pete to find out what they discovered this was about 10:00-10:30 a.m.he told me they were going to bring my car in the garage in 20 minutes and one of the mechanics told him that the torque converter was possibly bad.

passed the garage an hour an a half later car was still parked in the same spot.nov.15 they finnally moved my car inside the garage.nov.16 went to the aamco garage.pete told me they had shipped my transmission unit to hammond la.to the aamco there i asked why.he told me so that crew can work on it there.nov 17,18,the same story then finally on the evening of the 18 he told me that the hammond shop told them they have to give me another unit because that one was torn-up don't know what that meant.

also told me that another unit was being shipped back here to new orleans from a warehouse.he never told me what was the name of this warehouse.this was on november 20,21.now here it is nov.22 called pete at 12:00 p.m.he told me they brought the wrong transmission and to call back in 30 minutes.then about 1:30p.m on the same day (nov 22)he told me the one that's need for my car could not get there until monday nov.25 i asked him is it possible if i can talk to these people he told me no..

he hasn't given a straight answer yet and i still don't have my car.

more than three days means they have a problem at that shop

When those transmissions first came out it took a few days to get them out of the door, But that was in the 80s. Those units are one day turn around unless the case is bad or something like that the general problem with them is electronic or to much end play and Teflon sealing rings. For it to take more than three days means they have a problem at that shop.

I once owned a 1988 caravan which I repaired twice myself. Due to the fact I'm a master tech. I purchased the master kits and installed them myself, only to have the transmission malfunction and bind on occasion. So I decided to let the pros fix it. Took the van with two extra transmissions and various parts over to Aamco. Was quoted a price of $1200 to repair the trans. Approved the work and pre paid the $1200 cash, even gave the two transmissions + parts to them. The reason I didn't just R&R the trans. is because the bellhousing was for a four cylinder engine and I had a v-6. But all the internal parts were the same if they needed any hard parts. I figured I wouldn't be needing them since I was having it professionally repaired. I then rented a compact car at $30 a day. The first week passed and not a word. Decided to call and spoke to Gill. I was told I was next on the list. I could see my van sitting in the yard next to the shop. I didn't live far so I would pass and check to see if the van had moved. For three weeks I watched the grass grow around it. On the fourth week I called again and was told that my van was in the shop and on the rack. The only problem I had with that statement was that I was on my cell phone parked across the street and was looking at my van somewhere in between the grass. I became very upset because thats when I relized I was being lied to. As I was speaking to Gill I walked in, He was shocked. I then informed him I was contacting HQ. I called headquarters and expressed my feelings. They informed me that they would be contacting me after the contacted the shop in question. About a week later I received a call my van was ready. I picked up my van and drove to the nearest gas station where I noticed the transmission was not shifting properly. So I returned and notified the manager. He called one of his Techs and had him ride with me to confirm my complaint. As we were driving I noticed my engine oil light flicker. We pulled over and checked the oil only to find it extremely low. At this point I didn't point any fingers. As a mechanic I know my engine didn't have any leaks that I knew of. But it was sitting for about a month. The informed me they would have to keep the van over night. I agreed and told them that the only reason they were working on it was because I had wanted it fixed right. The following day Gill called and told me it was ready to be picked up. I picked up the van. I had plans to go to a graduation at the UNO Lakefront. Before I could get there in my van the radiator blew. I opened the hood and found the cooling fan was unplugged. Was this intentional or just overlooked. Had the van towed home due to it was after hours. The next day I called and informed Gill on what had happened. He told me he was not responsible and that I was going have to purchase and install the radiator myself. Lucky for me I had a warrenty for the radiator. Just had to buy coolant and put it in. A week later it started shifting funny again. Had to bring it back to the butcher shop. Dropped it off and prayed it wouldn't take another month or radiator. Picked it up at the end of the day. Before I took it, I looked under the hood, only to find the fan unplugged again!! I called the manager to show him. He yelled at an employee and had him re-connect it. I then drove home and made plans to pull my 16ft boat and go fishing. Everything went fine until I got home. I backed the boat into it's parking spot, turned off the engine, got out to unhook the trailer. Unhooked everything, got back in, started the engine and the starter stayed engaged causing the wire harness to catch on fire. As the van was burning I opened the hood and through the smoke disconnected the battery before the whole van was up in smoke on my lawn. After all the smoke settled my brother came over and noticed the wire harness was caught between the motor mount. Had to call AAMCO and inform them on what had happened and what caused it. They wanted me to take the van to their mechanic at my expense. So I did. The mechanic said the mount was tightened on the wires when the trans was re-installed. It would cost me $2000 for the harness and another $700 for a new computer which was also damaged in the fire. After fighting with Gill at AAMCO and sifting through all the LIES I finally got my van fixed at the dealer after a new manager was hired at AAMCO. Needless to say it took another month for the dealer to fix it. And not only that but they also took an expensive electronic flasher from out of the fusebox thinking I wouldn't notice, then denied it. Needless to say again, the van didn't survive long after that.
