I just found this site the other day and while it has been a long time ago since Debbie was a customer here I do still remember her. I still have records of her service here as well. She was one of those customers that I just couldn't quite get to understand the difference betweeen fixing the car and fixing just the transmission. We quoted Debbie $3,556.15 to perform various repairs to her Acura Legend including transmission mounts and motor mounts, an overhaul on the transmission with torque converter, gear train components, solenoids, etc... and an external cooler. (Debbie is right about the cooler insofar as one being able to tell whether a vehcle will require one after the transmission is repaired. However, one can also tell before the transmission is repaired. I just thought she might like to know about that expense up front.) Debbie got a quote for a transmission from the dealership as she states in her report. From that moment forward, for some reason, she assumed that the cost for the transmission alone from the dealership should be the cost to fix the car. What about labor to install it? Does that include a torque converter or not? What about the cost of fluid? What about the cost of mounts, the cooler, etc...? Adding the costs of these services would greatly exceed the amount which we were quoting to perform all of these repairs. We too sourced an exchange transmission and determined that it was not a cost effective solution for her vehicle. (We were quoted $2987.14 for the transmission alone from the dealer.) Try as I might, I could never get Debbie to understand this. I really tried, too. She stopped communicating with me. She just wanted her car back at that point. She just never seemed to get over the fact that it would cost a lot of money to fix her Acura Legend. I don't blame her for being upset at the costs to fix the car. Heck, who wouldn't be? Thats a lot of money. As for her husband, I don't really remember talking to him but there would certainly be nothing magical about the transmission repairs costing 2000 plus dollars. As I hope I've made clear, the car didn't just need transmission work! This is a family-owned business. We've been here a long time. We are competitively priced though we are neither the cheapest nor most expensive in town. We do good work though we are not perfect. We stand behind our work. We have many satisfied customers. In the end, we are just messengers in this case. Debbie didn't like the message. The message was that an Acura Legend can be costly to repair. That was not trying to rip Debbie off. It was, still is, the truth. I wish Debbie well and regret we were unable to make her one of our many satisfied customers.
