I am concerned about which agency, if any, monitors the level of service provided by Access Securepak, an internet based company that allows families and friends of inmates to order food and health products that are shipped directly to the prison facility.

I recently placed an order for an inmate and found that about 50% of the items that the inmate had requested were "out of stock," including every soap and toothpaste choice.

Granted, keeping items in stock can be challenging, but when only a few brands of toothpaste and soap are offered, how hard is it to predict the demand?

Access Securepak has an obligation to the families and inmates that it serves, as it is the only choice available.

My concern is that you have a company that deals with prison systems in a number of states, but who monitors the company and its level of service?  The inmates can't complain, and most familes are not going to.  Is anyone keeping an eye on companies such as Access Securepak?

I have been using Access Securepak for about 12 months, October 2013 - November 2014. In recent months, many of the more piopular items have, more often than not, been out of stock when I wanted to order.  I have waited to see if the items come back in stock, but even if they do, others are then out of stock at that time and I can never put together a complete order. This is frustrating, and I end up sending lots of in-stock items in hopes that the others will be available the next month.

I am not sure that the company is somehow doing this on purpose.  Certainly, they need to coordinate ordering with their suppliers and perhaps review their restocking procedure or reorder criteria. However, it would be in their best interest to have as many items in stock as possible, as customers like me would order more often and right away. This company essentially has a monoply on the delivery of these goods to the facilities, and surely have built in a healthy profit margin -- and I have no problem with that -- so the more that they can sell, the better it is for them.  Out of stock hurts them too.

I certainly hope they imrpove, although I only need to place three more orders before my loved one comes home, but if not, the facility that contracts with them to allow delivery should be made aware of the level of service being provided. The can always contract with someone else.
