Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

At the end of November, 2009, I bought a 2002 Land Rover Freelander from Acura of Honolulu.  I traded in my old car for $3500 and paid cash of $6000 for a total of $9500 for this car.  Less than than 9 months later, my car developed transmission problems.  The Landrover dealership informed me that this problem had been identified earlier, when owned by the previous owner.  Acura of Honolulu did not disclose this problem, even though it claimed that it thoroughly inspected the vehicle before selling it to me.  I am informed that the transmission will now cost up to $8000 to fix.  I am informed that Acura routinely offers an warranty period for its used cars, but in my case, it did not give me any warranty.  It is clear that it did not offer me a warranty because it knew of the transmission problem.

Acura of Honolulu refused to do anything about the problem, and offered only to trade in the vehicle in exchange for a new car purchase.  They attempted to rip me off a second time by offering me only $3500 on the Landrover (a $6000 decrease from 8 months before), and no discount on a used car purchase.  I cannot afford to buy another car, especially when the trade in value of my Landrover is so low.

I recently took the car to another dealership to sell or trade in, and was informed that the CarFax report shows that it was involved in a major accident before I purchased the car.  This was not disclosed to me.  when I bought the car, the CarFax report which Acura of Honolulu showed me indicated that the car had been in an "accident."  It insisted that the reference to "accident" in the CarFax report was only to a "minor" accident, involving less than a scratch.  New City Nissan, however, informed me that it is understood in the industry that the word "accident" in the CarFax report, without a limiting description (like "minor"), indicates a major accident.

Acura of Honolulu was therefore deceptive in two ways:  1) it failed to disclose that the Landrover had a significant transmission defect which it knew about, and 2) it deliberately lied about the CarFax report, and mislead me to believe that the Landrover had been involved in a very minor accident, rather than a major accident.  I would never had purchased the Landrover from Acura of Honolulu if these problems were disclosed to me.   I now have a car which I cannot safely drive because of a severe transmission problem which Acura of Honolulu knew about.  I cannot trade in this vehicle because it has lost so much value due to its accident history and transmission problem, and I cannot afford to buy another car.

Please do something about this because I dont want anybody else to get ripped-off from this dealer.  Thank you.
