Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
Let me preface this vent session with the fact that we are fans of Adobe products. We have been using them for over a decade and can attribute much of the improvements of our products and production efficiencies to their powerful software. But their customer service is absolutely atrocious!! I don't really want to relive the sorid details of our recent experience with Adobe but I can sum it up nicely with a timeline of events.

April 24th - 26th upgraded our Creative Suite 3 with on line purchase of download, downloaded the program and upon first attempt experienced a complete system crash and computer failure

8 hours of technical support, $150 of computer repairs and a week of interrupted work days... Adobe said the program is incompatible with our system and suggested we return the product. Since it was a download we didn't have anything to return, so we filled out the letter of software destruction and faxed it in on May 5th.

It is June 17th and still no refund.

Is Adobe untouchable?! In the 10 yrs we have been using Adobe we have required technical support for every installation and every single time we have encountered a nightmare of being on hold for extended time, technical support staff that don't really understand how to fix the problem, or their English is so broken we have a difficult time understanding anything! If there was a comparable program out there I would switch without question... I would even pay more money!! I am 100% confident there isn't another software company that could match the lack of care Adobe seems to place on their customers time or money.

Actually, if  you are looking for a pdf alternative without use Adobe Acrobat, I highly recommend .djvu format. The software is varies from free to $150 USD depending what you want and who you go to. More info: http://www.djvu.org. I personally had to go to heavy consideration of the different types of software when it came to formats that will last a long time and keeping things under budget for archives. BTW, Gimp seams to do a great job for Photoshop related items.

I'm a big fan of Adobe products such as CS4 and Lightroom 2 but therre are alternative programs out there. Someone mentioned a freeware program called GIMP and if you need more, there are: Paintshop Pro X2 ACDSEE PRO 2.5

The Gimp

#4Consumer Suggestion

I know that your post is a little Dated. however .... Might I suggest to you http://www.gimp.org/ The Gimp, which is a completely Free Open source under the GNU public license agreement, Photo Editing software equivalent to Adobe Photoshop. very well designed to boot. Granted Adobe does make a nice product, and is well known. I do Like Photoshop. I think everyone should know about The gimp which was built originally for Linux systems, and recently ported to Windows. the community is more than willing to offer assistance with any troubles you may have with the software. and your opinions and suggestions are always welcomed. This software is free and fully supported because it was built by a community and not a money hungry corporation. I hope this helps you in your quest for an equivalent. My apologies if this has already been suggested to you.

Being that you live in Ottawa, Ontario I would hope that you've heard of the Corel Corporation, which makes CorelDraw....This is the only "real" competitor to Adobe Illustrator. There is also a lesser known vector program called Xara...which is a decent vector graphics program. CorelDraw has always been a weak competitor..but with their newer versions they've come close to Illustrator. Their equivalent to Photoshop, called PhotoPaint, is a decent bitmapped program but it comes no where near PhotoShop.
