Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I worked for Advance for 15 years. I was a store manager, Division Manager, & commercial sales. Because of my experience I was given a DM that was intimadated by my experience he was allowed to threaten me daily until he finally fired me for a practice that was done on a daily basis through out the company. I am female and he wanted another man to run my store! Since my termination I have found out the company has fired most all of the employees that were coming up on retirement age. Advance also terminated my insurance 2 hours after my termination! THIS is a common practice for Advance as it has happened to numerous employees since me. They have even cut some peoples insurance a day prior to their termination. Advance was a great company when Mr. Taubman owned and ran it, but since he left it is TRASH! Whomever thinks it is a good place to work is badly mistaken. I was told by a competitors DM he couldn't hire me because their inside person in Advance's HR dept. told him everything in my personel file!!! How illegal is that???I could not get a job because Advance gave out private information about me to prospective employers. They need to be stopped!

Advance Auto parts is a great company to work for. I went from PT TM getting his foot in to manager in less than 2 years(i am an ex-mechanic getting into this side of the business). it depends on your area and region bosses. I have NEVER heard of upper managment hiring or firing based on sex, age or anything. does it happen, i am sure but it would be limited to a managers style but if upper management got word they would be terminated. I took a training class at headquarters and EVERY TM was great and i even had a beer with the CEO(after training of course) at thier resturant(Shula's). They took every question and complaint very seriously and followed up with everyone they received during my week there. I am sure bad managers are in EVERY company and i am sorry you got ours but it does not represent the WHOLE company.

I was with Advance 15 years myself.. though I quit before it happened to me. I saw it many times over, firing or demoting people because they either didnt fit "the image", age and gender discrimination and just the good ole boy system. I spent the first 13 years absolutely in love and fullly dedicated to the ideas and the direction of the company. But the changes in upper management and small minded individuals that got to the top by regurgitating the crap of others has taken this company to its lowest level. Beware of this company, they will not look out for the best interet of you or your families.  I would not recommend this as a good employer.

Based on your complaint, you obviously were not terminated due to your gender...yet you so quickly and easily through that out there.  You may have been terminated due to you tenure and potential for retirement pay they didn't want to accrue.  As well, something you've personally done, as you admit is in your personnel file, inhibits you from obtaining employment elsewhere.

That's sounds like it stems from something you have done.  You submit to the fact that your prior employers may be contacted as a job reference when applying for employment.  I work in the automotive repair industry.  I know an amplitude of very successful and high-ranking women in the industry at repair facilities, dealerships, and parts stores.  Male or female, regardless of industry, many employees are being let go shortly before retirement-eligibility....
