I purchased a motor from them less than a year ago. I paid $875.00 CASH and they gave me the warranty papers, and a hand written receipt. It had a 15 month guarantee on it. It died after six months.

First they said it was the installers fault, then when we proved it defective, they said they could not find the receipt information in their computer and the handwritten was not good enough.

End result? I spent $875 for a motor, $650 to install it and then had to buy another from another company at $950 and pay $550 to have it installed! If I had the cojones, I'd become a shoplifter and rob them blind!!!

i am a shop foreman at a high volume shop.we deal with several parts suppliers.advance used to be really good till they opened up a store in our town,at first it was a good store, but now we get sorry service for example we have purchased a few engines from them, but the last one they said they would match ATK america's warranty.so we purchased the engine from them, less than a week later the vehicle is towed in,the crank broke.and yes they replaced engine after a week or more.but then for labor claim they paid 400 of the 1000 that it called for.they say that is all they ever pay.but we did a warranty job for them before on one we did not install and it paid 700 and required less labor.we have had defective parts come back and when they are sent for warranty we get the boxes sent back like brake pads with "caliper sticking" or other excuses.what does "lifetime" warranty mean?i wrote their corperate offices and a mr.tillman was supposed to contact me,but all i got was their area flunky telling me it was"my perogative not to buy their parts"i guess they would rather lose several thousand dollars a month and very bad word of mouth publicity instead of standing behind their parts.my advice is for people to use carquest and autozone.they still put the customers as their first concern.and as far as discrimination against female employees i see that too.one girl came back to work after having a baby and she got fired for being slow and another got pregnant and they fired her too.but the commercial accts manager cliff keeps his female cousin there even though she never looks up the right parts.

A handwritten receipt? Please, if he paid for the engine he would have a)been automatically entered in our database, b)been given a printed receipt with ALL warranty info, customer name, method of payment etc, and c)we keep carbons on EVERY transaction run through the register. I have carbons at my store from five years ago that I can pull at a moments notice, so obviously this claim is bogus. I can go back through my paperwork and find out if the guy bought a soda, what time, what the transaction number was, how he paid for it, etc. This gentleman needs to check his records again to make sure that he actually did purchase the engine from us. Even if, by some off chance, the store DID give him a handwritten receipt, our engine claims/warranty department keeps track of every motor we sell, even AFTER the warranty has expired. Therefore, this individual is obviously incorrect in his allegations against our company. Customer service is our business, why we go to work every day. Granted, not everyone can be pleased with our service, as some of our customers wouldn't be satisfied if you gave them the whole store. However, we stand behind our parts, and our people. Our service and parts availability is second to none.

the guy was an idiot for accepting a hand written receipt.

They filed the following rebuttal to the above Rip-Off Report: Their name: monica Their relationship to the company: Supporter Rebuttal: first, the guy was an idiot for accepting a hand written receipt. second, EVERYBODY who purchases anything with a warranty is automatically put in the computer data base. third we always receive a shipping confirmation once an engine or transmission order has been placed. I have sold many engines at my store with only one coming back and the customer wanted a replacement one. no problem done deal, received engine in two days cutomer received great service and prompt payment on his warranty claim, and is still a loyal customer. maybe he should try and rip them off, then he can see and feel what the magic of steel braclets feel like.

The above case begs to be filed in small claims court.

Rebuttal:
The above case begs to be filed in small claims court. I've "been there, done that", on similar issues. Most small claims courts are somewhat symphathetic to individuals if their case does have merits. Many times the "big guys" don't even show up, and you win the case by default. The judgement you get is usually useless until you then file a "Verified motion in proceedings supplementary" (no additional charge) in the same
court (when they ignore the judgement)

Then the fun really begins. With the local (to the business) sheriff dep't an asset seizure or auction sale may be implemented.

This takes time, but the outlay is $35. and the defendant must pay this along with asked-for interest. The experience I have on this matter has been in the state of Indiana, but most states are similar.

I have brought the almighty AOL to their knees in this manner, even though the asset seizure would've had to be carried out in Virginia. If the offending merchant is in your local area, it's a piece of cake and lots o' fun!
