After numerous attempts to find the non-existent website, and further attempts waiting on the phone for 48 to 57 minutes each. I found this website and thank God!

I finally spoke with "Kelly" @ Afni; she wanted my SS#, my current addy & phone #; I told her I don't give out info and she should tell me what info she had. She said hold on while she accessed public records.

The letter came in the wrong last name! and when I said this to her she said: "So you never had any boyfriends w/ this last name? You're sure you nver gave outr your info?"

I have lived @ this addy for over 4 yrs. I have never prior to this received anything from VERIZON saying I owed a debt in the amount of $1611! Furthermore I've never had a landline # w/ VERIZON. But did briefly use their internet service---snd if I owed that much they would've denied me!

If it was on my cerdit it would have hindered me from buying my house & leasing a van recently. But what really made "Kelly" mad was when I told her I've had no luck finding the website! She barked @ me : "well I haven't had any problems finding it!" OK but I tried on my computer, my daughters and a friends!

"Kelly" told me to write a letter to their addy in dispute to show proof of addy, a copy of my DL, a copy of my SS card, and a current police report saying I must be the victim of ID theft! Isn't it their job to prove me the debt?

I don't want this on my credit, but they're not getting any of my personal info to fix it so what do I do? Anyone have a sample of a letter I might send--I know I saw someone else said send it certified mail w/ a return reciept---but can I do that to a PO Box?

Why did this always ahppen to the lil' guys? I 'm already struggling to get by--now this!

FRUSTRATED BEYOND BELIEF!

Make them Validate the debt!

Speaking to them was a waste of time, since they will only try to fish out more information from you and I wouldn't trust what they might do with it. Per the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act (FDCPA, google it and you'll find out about your rights under the Act), you should send them a request to VALIDATE the debt within 30 days of receiving their collection letter. If they have not told you the debt amount and the info for the original creditor, they must get that to you within 5 days of their first collection. Request any and all documentation from the establishment of the account to prove that it is yours. If they are unable or unwilling to document this debt, they will not be able to contact you any more, nor should they be able to continue to pursue the debt with you. You should be able to send a certified letter, return receipt requested to a PO Box, I did for our bogus collection from them and the post office had no problem when I sent it. Write the number from the certified stub on the letter itself also to prove what you sent and keep copies of everything. Furthermore, I did not sign the letter, just typed my name as they had it on their collection letter with no personal information beyond what they put on the bill. I am not a lawyer, so follow up on the FTC website and other sites, such as (((ROR REDACTED LINK FOR SECURITY PURPOSES))) which were really helpful to me.
