Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
On January 3, 2007, me and my husband recieved a letter stating we owe Verizon Communications 946.58. Since we never had an account with verizon, we called. They asked us to verifiy some info like our SSN and address. OF course we said no we will give you the account number on the letter.

Then they asked us for a home number in case we get disconnected. Of course we said no if we get diconnected we will call you back. Of course we this was after one hour of tring to get a hold of them and the line was always busy.

The CS rep. said that is was an account from 1997. And that is was from Bellsouth who was bought out by Verizon. I said "1997". CS rep said it was from Virgina. I told him that we have never lived in VA.

Again he asked for out SSN. Again I said no because then you can just type it in linking us to this. He then said that I needed to pay this. OOOO no I dont. I will send you a letter of Validation of dept.

He then try to threaten me saying that it is going on our credit. I said "Sir it in now on my credit after 10 year I dont think it is going to be there now. You dont have any infomation backing this up that it is mine or my husband. You are fishing for it now. I am not going to fall for it."

He then said that I can send the letter and when they (AFNI) send me validation then I have only 30 days to pay it. I said lets see what you have. This is not mine or my husband so I dont have to worry about any validation.

Did these people really think I was going to give them my SSN and birth date over the phone. I think not. 10 years ago me and my husband were not even married. So lets see what they have.

If any one gets a letter from them do not give them your SSN or birth date. They are fishing for info so they can link it to you. Dont even give them an address or phone number. Just give them the account number on the letter(if you call them) And of course *67 the phone before you call so they can not trace it back to you.

O yeah they also had a address on file of Florida. They asked me for my address and I said you have it, it is the address on this letter, they came back with a florida address when I live in Alabama. SCAM

As inadvertantly explained in an article on smartmoney.com titled "For Whom Ma Bell Trolls" dated March 6,2006: "But if AT&T is allowed to bulk up and become the largest telecom operator in the country not to mention sole owner of the largest wireless operator, Cingular, which it currently co-owns with BellSouth you can bet its ramifications will impact more than one industry."

"Me", First of all, these are bottomfeeder junk debt buyers and debt collectors. They ARE NOT "Customer Service". These are amateur attempts at skip tracing in an attempt to locate the original debtor. These AFNI punks are absolute idiots and overall scumbags. Second, they already had your phone number captured in their system if you called a toll free number even if your number is unlisted, blocked or private. They pay for this service. The person you were talking to was just lazy/stupid and it was easier to ask you for it. However you were correct in not giving them any information. NEVER call, or speak to ANY debt collector on the phone as there is absolutely no proof of the conversation. DEMAND everything in writing. Only communicate by certified mail, return reciept requested. be sure to put the certified# on the letter itself and keep a copy for your records, as this proves what you sent. Then when you have to sue them later, you have already documented your case. Immediately, by the means above, send a DEBT VALIDATION request. DO NOT sign this letter, just print. Clearly dispute this debt and DEMAND to see the original signentract that created the alleged debt, as well as a full account history and itemization of charges. Also demand proof that they have the legal right to collect the debt, and if they claim to own it, DEMAND copies of the purchase contract, proof of payment, and chain of title. Now, when they fail to respond you sue them for the frivolous collection, credit damage, defamation, etc. Be creative. Don't get mad, GET PAID!!
