Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I took my 1997 Dodge Caravan AWD to my regular mechanic (who I have had for the last 10 years and had serviced my van since I had bought it.) to have it checked out because I was coming to the end of my warrenty and wanted him to check it out to see what it might need before the warranty ended, they found that we had leaking seals in the differentals both front and rear which were covered under warranty but had a alloted amount of time for doing this repair and he didn't have the correct tools to do it in the alloted time.

So he suggested that we take it to a chrysler dealer that would have the tools so I made an appointment at Allen Mello Dodge in Nashua NH which is where I had purchased the Van (this was in August of 2000 they replaced the seals charged us the $100.00 deductible and also told us we needed a brake job and then sent us on our way.

When I got on the highway my Van was making a horrible howling noise in the rear end as soon as I got home I called them and told them of this noise they said to bring it back and they would check it out again.

I brought it back again and after having it for two days told me it was my brakes that they could fix for an outragous amount I told them not to fix the brakes I had someone who could do that for me, so I had all new brake pads rotors cables etc put on to prove to them that it couldn't be that because the Van didn't make the noise when it went there and the brakes were the same when it went in the first time as they were when I picked up the Van that night.

Again I got ahold of them and told them I had a complete brake job done and the Van was still making this noise, again they said bring it down and they would check it out (of course charging me each time) this time they said I had the wrong tires on the Van and that was my problem so to appease them and because I needed to put new tires on before winter I had four brand new tires put on the brand etc that they specified. The noise was still there (suprise) by this point I was getting pretty upset so I took it to another Dodge Dealership to get a second opinion they said they thought it was a rear bearing and it was around $400.00 and not covered by warranty.

At this point I no longer trusted the dealship service dept so I took the Van back to my regular mechanic and asked him to replace the bearing which he did and the Van still made the same noise, so again I Allen Mello Dodge and took it down to their service dept and they checked it out and now said it was something else but it was covered under warranty so it would only cost me $100.00 well after about 4 more trips with them charging the warranty company the main amount and me the $100.00 deductible each time the Van was still making the noise so when I called the head of the service dept this time he informed me that they had done all that they could and would do and that the Van had gone over it miles to be covered by the warranty any longer and that our own mechanic who had replaced the bearing was the one who had done something wrong. (even though the Van was making the noise before we even took it back to my own mechanic) and they wouldn't do anything more to correct the problem they had created to begin with..

I went to everyone in the dealership up as far as the general manager and got no where. Also I forgot to mention that one of the times I had to take it down for service I was talking with the mechanic who had been doing all the work on the Van for them and he had told me this was his first All Wheel Drive Caravan he had ever worked on and wasn't really sure what he was doing..The end result was that I finally got so fed up that I went to another more reputible dealer and traded the Van in (in Feb of 2001)because when they refused to do anything more it was still making the same noise that it had made the first time I picked it up after they had worked on it.

When I asked my own mechanic to please look at it one more time he said it might cost upwards of $3,000.00 to repair what they had damaged because there were specific bulletines out on my Van that said when replacing the parts ALLEN MELLO DODGE had replaced you had to brace the drive shaft up so it didn't move or it could cause damage to the whole transaxel so he advised me my best bet would be to get rid of it..

As an automotive technician I think it is a good idea for the car buying public to buy the vehicle they are interested in from the dealership that sells the perticular vehicle you are looking for, for example I wouldn't buy a used Subaru from a Ford dealer, buy the used Subaru from the Subaru dealer, they will be more familliar with what type of problems perticular models may have and they will be familliar with whatever recall's or special repair campaigns that the manufacture may provide, and they will have the specialized tools that may be needed to repair your vehicle. Alot of times people only consider the price when they are looking for a car, they dont consider that the late model chevrolet they found at their local ford dealer will need repair and maintenence, the ford dealer they bought the vehicle from might not be that familliar in repairing some of the major repairs that the vehicle may need

They filed the following rebuttal to the above Rip-Off Report: Their email: [email protected] Their name: Leslie L. Richardson Their relationship to the company: Owner Rebuttal: On September 7, 2001 I purchased a 1998 Ford Windstar from the Used are division of Allen Mello Dodge. The car had 49,500 miles on the car and with the purchase a 90 day or 3,000 miles dealer warranty was included, which to me means that the following should be covered at their expense, as follows: Chrysler Powertrain Warranty, Engine, Transmission, Drive Axle Assembly, Front and Rear Suspension -covered at 100% for labor and parts. In addition, I purchased an Daimler Chrysler Service Contract that requires $100.00 deductible covering 24,000 or until 9/7/03, whichever comes first through the recommendation of the dealer. Initially I told the dealer that the extended contract through Daimler Chrysler, which requires a $100 deductible to have work done. On or about 09/08/01, after I bought the car I immediately recognized a problem with the gas gauge, I would fill the tank up and travel approximately 20 miles and the gauge would drop immediately to 1/2 tank. The rest of the gauge needle would float -never knowing how much gas was in my tank. I was told to wait to combine with any other problems that may arise so that I would have to only pay the $100 deductible one time. On or about October 12, 2001 I noticed that transmission fluid spewing all over the back of the car and transmission fluid was leaking under the car. I called Allen Mello service to schedule and the earliest they could get me in was October 19, 2001 in the morning. When I turned the car over to Allen Mello Dodge on that day I asked for the following problems to be fixed: 1. Transmission fluid leaking, spewing over the back of the car and fluid was leaking underneath the car 2. Gas gauge drops and floats. 3. Right rear tire has slow leak and to please check out and plug as necessary. On Friday evening Bernie from Allen Mello called and said there was definitely a problem but they was not sure how to fix and that they would be send over to Best Ford to look at on Monday. Best Ford looked over the car and "found no transmission leak" but they did clean up the transmission fluid that had leaked. Also noted that transmission fluid was 1 quart over filled and dipstick not sitting properly in fill tube, may need new dipstick. Best's tech also noted who ever performed the brake job found that the right front caliper all twisted. In other words, no work was done on the transmission to find the cause of the problem. The car was released back to Allen Mello Dodge on 10/25/01. Allen Mello still could not fix the gas gauge problem so they sent it back to Best Ford on 10/25/01 where they replaced the fuel tank and sending unit and returned to Allen Mello on 10/31/01. Allen Mello returned the car back to Best Ford because the car would not pass quality inspection. Best found that the fuel hose was twisted and the problem was repaired. Sent back to Allen Mello Dodge. Allen Mello wanted to test the car before they released to me. I picked up the car on November 5, 2001 with the following explanation of work done: 1. Repaired leak at dipstick tube 2. Repaired gas gauge problem by replacing pump and tank. 3. Repaired right rear slow leak, repaired tire, in other words they plugged the tire. NOTE: Obviously the right front caliper was never addressed by Allen Mello Dodge from the Best Ford recommendations, The dipstick was never replaced, does not seat in the tube, and the right rear tire STILL has a leak and it has been confirmed that they never plugged it. In addition, while at Best Ford, recall work was done to the car and I was never made aware of this. TOTAL COST: $119.95 ($100 deductible and $9.95 to "plug" the tire - which was never done!) Allen Mello never addressed the caliper problem, which is a NH Safety issue Law on all used cars. Obviously who ever put the NH Safety Inspection sticker did not do a thorough inspection! On November 4, 2001 while traveling Rts. 93 South and Rt 128 to Lexington,MA as I got off at Rt 4/225 exit in Lexington my transmission gave out...leaving my car as if in Neutral. I was able to coast to my destination for about 1/4 mile and then the transmission gave in again. As I pulled into the parking lot of my destination transmission fluid was leaking heavily and my engine was smoking. I called Allen Mello Dodge and I was told that it was not their problem and that I had to call a Ford Dealer in the area to have it towed. I called Bonnel Ford in Winchester and explained the situation and they said I had to take it back to Best Ford, I then called Best Ford and they said they did absolutely NOTHING to the transmission but clean up the spill. Also told me that the right front caliper was bad and that the dipstick did not seat correctly. None of which of the later was addressed by Allen Mello Dodge at all. They told me that they were unaware of those problems. I asked why they told me that "repairs" had been made to the transmission, according to their receipt they gave me. I also said that the right rear tire that they supposedly fixed and charged me for was still have a leak problem. I spent and entire hour making calls with no one accepting to take the car. The service department at Allen Mello would not even talk to me. I ended up calling the "Owner" of Allen Mello and he was too busy to talk to me and that he would get the head of Service to call me back. He did and set up with Bonnel Ford to take the car. Thus relieving Allen Mello of all prior responsibilities from the prior incident. I also explained to Allen Mello that I had a 9o day dealer warranty that should be covering all the work. They said that is what I have the extended Chrysler Daimler contract for. All work that has been performed is stated in the 90 dealer warranty and Allen Mello has shirked their responsibilities on this one. The only person that has been helpful in this situation is Bob Grimald of Allen Mello Dodge and he put himself on the line to get a loaner car for me. The car has been repaired since Wednesday, December 19, 2001 but the Daimler Chrysler Contract has been trying to call Bonnel Ford to give the credit card authorization and has only been able to get a voice mail. Bonnel Ford will not release the car till it is paid for. I had to return the loaner car that Bob Grimald was able to get for me today and I will not get my car back until the earliest Wedneday, December 26, 2001. Leaving me with no vehicle over the holidays and having to cancel trips made to family for the holidays. To wrap this all up, ALL of this work should have been covered by Allen Mello Dodge under the 90 Day Dealer Warranty, not my extended contract, which is what is happening. If Allen Mello had taken the responsibility that they should have in the beginning then this frustration time for me would not be happening. There are legal issues regarding the right front caliper, which I am having to pay for and the additional $100.00 deductible plus another $60+ that will have to come out of my pocket. I also have $166.00 tied up in the 5 day rental that I rented on my own, which will be reimbursed by Chrysler Daimler. I called Daimler Chrysler on how much they are paying and for some reason the $166.00 has grown to close to $300 out of pocket expenses plus the rental car expense....I am at a loss. Why are these people not honoring their responsibility that I have in black and white. The total cost to repair is over $1,800.00. They wanted me to pay all upfront and then submit for reimbursement from Chrysler Daimler....I am unfortunate that this kind of money is not available to me and now it is all out of control. I have paperwork to back up ALL facts that I have stated in this letter. Where do I go from here....write Chrysler themselves and explain or what. I intend to try and fight this till I can some reasonable explanations. Leslie L Richardson
