The agent did what most agents would do; the cadi was only one year newer then the ford. The agent did what you asked him or her to do replace this vehicle with that vehicle. Had the replacement vehicle had a loan or was a newer model vehicle I am sure the agent would have asked about coverage's. Maybe he or she should have asked & advised on the coverage's. Since you had reviewed your coverage's just months before at the time you removed the comprehensive coverage from your Ford, Was it really necessary to review it again? The year of the vehicle has a lot to do with it, and you as a consumer have a responsibility to review your coverage's. The agent did the right thing turning the matter over to underwriting. The company did what the policy said it would do no comp no coverage the issue is with the agent if you feel you have an issue. Also if you son was still residing in your home he should not have been taken off your policy. The company my have made an exception to exclude your son from being covered driving the cars on your policy but if he resides in your household he should be listed on your policy regardless of whether he had his own policy. If your son did not reside in your home, the company should not even take in to consideration his driving record when considering non-renewing or canceling a policy. Hope things worked out for you.

Lynda, I worked for an American Family agent in Oregon for over a year (and now work for another insurance company). That agent should have given you the same coverages on your Cadilliac as your Explorer. They should have the same policy number, and the only thing they should have done is a vin change. AmFam usually doesn't like to put comp and coll on vehicles older than 10yrs, unless they have a leinholder. My suggestion to you is to ask the agent for a copy of your file, which should include all changes made to each vehicle on the policy in the last couple of years. I would suggest calling the claims center at 1-800-374-1111 just to give them info on the accident even though their records don't show you currently having comp and coll, just so that it is documented by someone other than your agent. Also ask for the district managers phone number so that you can call and let them in on the situation so they can help handle it. I wish you the best of luck!
