American Pro Moving & Storage, Inc. provided an estimate for moving services that amounted to $506. When showing up to perform services they moved some furniture into truck, then provided a revised estimate at 60% more than original estimate, $837.
After about 30 min of trying to get their manager on the phone they agreed via phone to honor original estimate, and hung up on me.
Movers finished loading furniture, and during drive to second location called with yet a third estimate of $1100. This was approximately a 25 mile trip.
At this time the manager who previously agreed to honor original estimate denied he had ever agreed to this and refused to reconcile the situation. He continuously yelled at me over the phone and hung up on me.
In addition, he said I had two choices; 1 Pay him the $1100 and get my furniture or 2 they would refuse to unload furniture, place it in storage, charge a daily rate, and charge another moving fee to get it out of storage. He alluded to the cost being double the $1100 fee he was currently trying to extort from me.
While moving the furniture into location 2 the movers knocked over my neighbors plants, and then denied they had done this. When my neighbor told them he had actually watched them do this they responded by screaming at him to F*** Off.
In addition part of the original estimate included moving 2 book shelf's from a basement into an upstairs bedroom. Movers refused to move these items.

Patrick, local moves within the state (less than 50-100 mils depending on the state involved) are billed by the hour. As such, the cost of $506 provided is not a hard and fast quote - in fact the price represents a minimum and generally does not include the price of materials. Anything they then provide you orally over the telephone has no effect or bearing on the price of a move. I have no idea on the surface whether this is a reputable firm or not, but your claim to this point has no blame assigned to the mover to this point, except for the plants. I will tell you what I tell all people: Moving is not an inexpensive venture, whether you move within the town or out of state. It is a manually intensive process and the price for labor isn't generally cheap, unless you choose a non-reputable mover. The non-reputable mover charges you a low hourly rate, and then works as slow as possible and uses material unnecessarily to make up for the low rate, making the fee for moving the same with a scam mover as it is for a professional. The problem happens when stuff is broken with the non-pro, thereby making what looks like a cheap move - really expensive.
