but there were well within their rights to take the car back. You said that you were 60 days behind on payments so they repo-ed the car. If you took out the extra insurance on the car, you needed to file the claim before the car got to a repo stage. sorry for your misfortune but they did not technically do anything wrong. And yes, once the car is auctioned/sold any original amount that Americredit paid on your behalf that cannot be re-couped is still your responsiblity to pay. They are not going to lose money they paid out because you could not pay your bills. Also, the amount due from you may be higher than the original financed amount of the car due to interest and fees associated with repoing the car.

I too was a victim of Americredit. I posted earlier. Beleive me...You are not crazy. After 5 years of payments (and yes, some were late) I finally paid of my car. Late fees included. After they cashed my final payment (three days later) they said I still owed them 600.00 before they would release my title. My suggestion to you is to file a complaint with the Attorney general's office, the BBB and the Office of Consumer Credit Commissioner. I know it seems like alot of work, but believe me, it will help if enough people file complaints. If you don't, they simply get away with treating their customers badly. Keep us informed. Good luck
