In March 2002, I purchased my 2nd vehicle through Americredit. I had no problem the first time. In late 2002, I fell behind on payments. I received a call from Americredit in January and was told my loan would be charged-off. The customer service rep I spoke to stated I would be OK if I sent a payment immediately. I sent them a payment via Western Union that day.

I continued to make consistent monthly payments through May '03. On June 3, 2003 a repo thug pulled in my driveway and took my 1999 Camaro away. I spoke with an Americredit rep daily for about a week and he assured me I would get my car back. It appeared that he was giving me the runaround and I was finally referred to a supervisor who advised me that the loan had charged-off back in January. (Confirmed by a credit report check)

This woman advised me that they had been searching for the car for 6 months and they were finally able to retrieve it on that day. That is complete B.S. I asked if all my payments had been credited to my account and she stated that they were, but because I signed the contract, I owed them the money, even though they have the car! This is highway robbery - they get 6 months of payments and my car??!! I

have contacted the Better Business Bureau and an attorney. Americredit already has a class-action suit pending on another matter. I would be interested in participating in a class-action suit for illegal and immoral business practice!

my company does work for americredit, we are a repo company. we are not repo thugs . we have a job to do and we do it. most people know what they are getting into when they purchase a vechicle . they know that they do not have good credit and they cannot get financed anywhere else. it is a shame that they have to pay higher rates but at the same time they have to ubderstand the risk that americredit takes with each loan. a ripoff is when you are lied to when you sign a contract and i believe that the greater majority of people are not lied to. i also believe that dealerships are bigger ripoffs than anyone. they lie to the finance company about the debtors state of finance and they really don,t care if americredit gets their money. there is always two sides to every story and now you know the rest of the story
