An unauthorized charge of $48.79 showed up on my Mastercard on 4/27. I called the number listed, 888-295-7130 (CA), on 6/8th and spoke to Roshawn. She explained that her company provides customer service and billing services for American Fone (sp?), who sells prepaid long distance calling cards. She said I would've ordered it over the phone, mail or internet. I let her know that I did not, and would not buy a prepaid long-distance calling card. Further, I never received one. She agreed to cancel the service and reverse the charges with no argument. How did you get my credit card number if I did not authorize this? "Hold please...." Ryan Mitchell, the Saturday Manager, 760-918-5872, came on the phone and indicated that I placed an order on the internet on 3/4/02 authorizing their charge. He said the Company receives customer names and credit card numbers from their marketing partner, Cornerstone. Cornerstone has several other marketing partners. He said it is possible there was a small pre-selected box on an internet site where I purchased something, stating that I am authorizing the purchase of this 30 day free service, and if I don't cancel the plan will be charged to my card. Ryan referred me to Sonia Nanda, Customer Service Director at 760-918-5874, who would have access to the information showing exactly where I authorized (if any at all) this order - was it Amazon? I'm not sure still waiting to make contact with Sonia. I am furious and hope that this lengthy complaint provides info to stop them from taking advantage of hundreds/thousands of innocent people! A couple of possibilities (from an employee report): Television info-mercials (Thunder Stick, Thigh Master, etc.) Online merchants (computers - Tiger Direct, vitamins and health products, etc.) And Home shopping channels (QVC, Shop at Home, etc.) I DID check Amazon, they are clean:-)) If you get a FULL list, please post it.
