Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I started attending the University of Phoenix Online in July of 2009. They informed me that this was the best school to attend and that I would be greatly satisfied.

All the classes I have taken has been going well. I have passed all my classes with A's and B's, I never missed an assignment, and I made sure to log in everyday.

I recently received an email from my financial counselor stating that I had ran our of funds and I would have to pay cash or receive a private loan in order to finish school. If I could pay cash for school, I would have never applied for grants and loans.

My financial advisor Kathleen Bastianelli was not very helpful either in trying find sources that will help me pay for my classes.

I do not appreciate the way I have been treated and for anybody who wants to file a class action lawsuit please inform me.

The rules and regulations that govern financial aid are set by the government.  They are awarded based on need.  If you were only awarded a low amount of Financial Aid it is because you have income that should be sufficient to pay for your education.  Where does the fault lie?  Who do you want to sue, the government for not issuing you more aid than you were entitled too?  Or the University for not allowing you to attend for free?  University of Phoenix is not the cheapest online school.  I did find two other schools which cost less when I was researching Universities.  What did your research results turn up?

Latoya, when you started school and your financial aid was processed, you were given an award letter that detailed what your tution and fees were, and what aid you were being offered (Pell, loans, etc.). I'm not sure if U of P charges a flat rate for full time attendance, or a per-hour rate, but it's possible that any change in your schedule could have triggered the need for more funds.

Admissions advisors don't have a clue who needs money and who doesn't. To the financial aid department, you're just another student. So even if you told one of them you wouldn't start school unless you had enough aid, there's no way they can be held liable for that nugget of information. It is up to the STUDENT to review the award letter, determine if they have sufficient funds, then make an intelligent decision. As the previous poster pointed out there are other sources of aid that you could be checking on.

Also, anyone who posts a ROR is leaving themselves open to comments from the public. If you don't like what you read don't post here. But I can tell you that the person who posted after me also makes sense, and perhaps you should knock the chip off your shoulder and actually take this advice to heart.

For all the people who are responding to my previous comment with negativity, I first want to start off by saying the reason why I am upset with the school is because they did not inform me when I first enrolled that I would not have enough funds to finish.

They knew that from day one I was going to run out of loan money and they should have informed me about it so I could have either put in for scholarships or not attended.

I am pell grant elligible but not loan eligible but everybody knows you need grants and loans or grants and scholarships to attend UOP

Who can pay for college out of pocket these days, I know I can't. I can barely take care of my 3 kids and pay my bills and thats I why I am in school to better myself for me and them.

And I value my education, it is one of the most important things in my life right now.

I am 16 classes from graduation and it is very upsetting to me to know that I will not be able to finish.

I am not going to lie I had a good enrollement counselor, he was the best and my acadmeic counselor now is really good and concerning, and I enjoyed all my instructors and classes.

I still feel like I was given a raw deal and I wish my financial counselor would have informed me earlier about this instead of waiting till I ran out of funds and then was like oh you don't you have anymore money.

So you will need to pay cash or take out a private loan.I was looking at that email in shock and started crying. This has been very stressful to me and I don't wish this to happen to nobody else.

What some of you people fail to realize is that all of us are not making up the same story. No we are not telling the same story but our stories are similar to each other.

For the ones who have graduated from there, you got your degree so why would you say anything negative or care about how we feel and for the ones who work for them, they paying your bills. Do you think that I expect for you to say oh it is a bad place to work come on now.

None of you who are responding have been in my shoes, until you get in a situation like mine, you should have nothing to say. You are on the outside looking in.

Thank You and Be Blessed

R U Serious, I find it hard to believe that you don't have anything to do but be in my business (so childish).

Why are you even on the site if nobody has ripped you off. No they did not inform me that I would not have enough money because if they did, believe me I would have never started.

You can believe what you want to believe and I could care less rather where you got your MBA from there or not. Are you doing anything with it, apparently not because you got too much time on your hand to be on the internet spreading negativity.

Further more I don't have to explain nothing to you and one more question why are you angry being that you don't even attend Phoenix nor work for them.

Thank You and Have a Blessed Day

You state you received an email from your counselor stating you ran out of funds? First, are you attending Axia or University of Phoenix?  Were you eligible for PELL? If so, what did you do with those funds? Either way, your finance counselor as well as your enrollment advisor would have informed you at the beginning of your aid year any out of pocket you would faced. They would also informed you that you would need to come up with an alternate source of funding once your financial aid funds had been exhuasted for that aid year.

I really find it hard to believe that nothing like this would have been covered.  And what are you trying to prove by "outing" your financial advisor?  You just made yourself liable for slander.

Now, because you have an out of pocket expense you want to start a class action lawsuit????  Oh my goodness.  That is funny.  Did you ever think to search our grants or scholarships?  Or apply for a plus loan?  There are so many options out there.

Instead of wasting your time trying to make something out of nothing you could have easily applied that energy to finding alternate sources of funding so that you could continue your education at a decent institution.

I do not attend UOP (I did earn my MBA from their however) anymore, nor do I work for them.  I am involved in education however and I find your statement to be nothing short of ridiculous.

Grow up.  Own up. Take responsibility for yourself.

First of all If I was told by my counselors to begin with that I did not have enough funds(Cause they knew that I didn't have the funds before I started) then I would have never attended in the first place.

Second of all, I don't believe that I don't have the funds to keep attending school, cause I have not attended school long enough to be out of funds.

Everybody on this computer is not putting in complaints just to have something to do. I just found this sight due to trying to find out what credits transfer from Phoenix to other schools and non of them do.

Before you respond, you need to get the facts straight and your attidude is the one who needs some adjusting.

Thank You and Have a Blessed Day

Class action lawsuit for what reason? Because you don't have the money to finish college? It is a student's responsibility to understand (a) what their tuition is, (b) what their financial aid will cover and for how long, and (c) figure out how to make up any difference. If you can't do this, you're not ready for college.

And no, I don't work for U of P. But I have a lot of experience with this and think your attitude could use a little adjusting.
