I met an Arbonne rep who gave me a bag of full-sized bottles of various skin care products to try out. When she handed them to me, I thought that this was way too generous and that they should be using travel sized samples. However, she said that she would let me use them for a few days and then I’d need to give them back to her. She said that she disinfects between uses. I told her that I was concerned that reusing cosmetics like that was an FDA violation. She said that she carefully cleans them and that nothing had ever happened before. However, within a few days of using the cosmetics, I developed a stye, which then turned into a chalazion. I spoke to my eye doctor about it and we both agreed that the stye turned chalazion was probably caused from the container not being properly disinfected. Arbonne should not let people reuse testers. Shared testers, like those on makeup counters, are supposed to be monitored by skin care professionals to prevent contamination. Contamination can occur even though you disinfected the eye cream’s container. The FDA prohibits reusing containers unless they are completely emptied and a full on recycling and disinfection process is utilized.
Due to the contamination from my stye, I had to purchase antibiotic eye drops for $100. Doctors office parking was $12. Doctors billed were $250 and I had to miss work and think I should be entitled to compensation for pain and suffering. I asked Arbonne to please help me with this loss and they initially refused for months and then made a low ball offer once we were at small claims court.
