What you read from DPS is correct. They do add points for 20+mph over, but in order to do that, they have to prosecute you crimininally (which the County Attorney refuses to do). I think the worst you'll be on the hook for is the fine. Good Luck.

I couldn't believe I was the lead story. The reporter told me this was a hot topic. The only thing though is I read from DPS that they add points to your record for criminal tickets (above 20 over) or a ticket in a school zone. Now I need to find someone that can analyze my video and prove my actual speed. I'm thinking maybe going to ASU or something like that.

I was watching TV last night when I heard a news teaser about somebody who was tagged by a speed camera doing 88 in a 65. I was thinking, "Hey, I just replied to someone similar on ROR today". As soon as they mentioned the You-Tube video, I knew it must be you. I was impressed that they even set you up as the lead story, where usually they bury stories like these well into the newscast. You even beat out Barack Obama's news conference. Well done! I heard that you have a court appearance scheduled for the ticket. Please keep us updated on the progress. It looks pretty certain that you won't be criminally prosecuted, but there's still that civil fine to deal with. By the way, the news report indicated that along with a $300 fine, you'd have to worry about insurance going up. I don't think that's the case. The speed camera legislation is pretty clear that they can charge a civil fine, but no violation will go on your driving record. In other words, they make it clear that this is a revenue generating scheme, rather than a traffic safety program. Best of luck and keep us posted.

Today Veronica Sanchez on NBC 12 in Phoenix came to my house to do a report on my bogus ticket. Thank you for listening :) Several other stations are also looking into this, but channel 12 took this extremely quick and had this aired the same night. Once again thank you! Nice to know there are still some people you can turn to. The video is available on the channel 12 phoenix site, and also through my youtube account just like the original speed video. Youtube user name: dizzyntara Video name ch12 does a report on my bogus photo speeding ticket

Since you're in Maricopa County, you may have dodged a bullet. On Feb 23rd, County Attorney Andrew Thomas announced that his office would refuse to prosecute any criminal speeding cases where the only evidence was speed camera data. I suggest you give the County Attorney's office a call and find out the status. More recently, the state AG issued an opinion that speed cameras could be used to prosecute criminal speeding violations in AZ, but I believe Maricopa County is still refusing to prosecute.

You can go to Youtube. My user name is dizzyntara and the name of the video is speedvideo I'm really worried that the judge will not hear me or even the dps video since they hate to admit these cameras don't work. I'm sickened by this and don't know what to do, or how to for sure win this in court. Seems easy, but I know a few people who have got stuck in intersections and the light turn red, giving them a ticket. Everyone says the same thing when they go to court. Judge tells them "The cameras are never wrong." So once again go to youtube Username: dizzyntara Vide name: speedvideo
