I scheduled a move from Atlanta to Los Angeles, and gave the new address in L.A. to them on 3-1-2005. My things were promised to be delivered on or about 3-15-2005. I rented an aparment and signed the lease beginning on 3-15-05, based on the delivery arrival date promised.

Besides being about three weeks behind schedule (my things didn't arrive until 4-2-05), they were extremely unprofessional and basically robbed me of an extra $600. First, they showed up at the wrong address. They went to the billing address of my credit card (in Burbank) instead of to my apartment. I don't know how this happened as I provided the address to you and to Betty at least three times, in writing.

When they did finally show up, they pulled this stunt about not being able to back the truck in the alley, which is a full-size alley that other trucks the same size have no problem accessing on a daily basis. (See attached pictures.) My landlord came out and spoke with them and explained to them that everyone else who has moved into the building had no problem parking a truck in the alley. They refused to even try it.

They parked way down the street off the alley and said they had to charge me a long carry fee of $600. I had no choice but to pay it, in cash, or they wouldn't unload the truck. Then, instead of doing the work themselves, they hired two guys they found on the street to move my stuff. They gave them each $20 to do all of the work. The movers just sat on the truck while these other guys, who obviously are not professional movers, unloaded everything. I told them I was not comfortable with the other guys moving everything, but they didn't care. I assume your guys pocketed the remaining $560.

When all the stuff was loaded into my place, the movers from Atlantis came up and put the bed together, but that was really difficult for them as they didn't think to bring any tools. They asked me if I could borrow tools from one of my neighbors. They tried to put the desk together but this too was haphazard and they left it incomplete.

They were extremely rude and kept making comments about what a bad neighborhood I was moving into. I heard this comment at least 10 times. As a customer, I think it is unspeakable for the company I hired to make derogatory comments about the place I am moving into. If I did that to one of my clients I would be fired.

From start to finish, this is the worst moving experience I have had in my lifetime. I will be suing the company for the $600 I feel was stolen from me.

I originally filed this report, and I would like to follow up by saying that I did send pictures of the alley & truck to the "customer service" representative at Atlantis, along with a letter of complaint explaining what happened and demanding my $600 back. I never got a response, and that was over 4 weeks ago. Atlantis does not return my phone calls or emails. I have several witnesses to this event, including the landlord of my building, who has been here 20 years and can certainly attest to the truck sizes (including 18 wheelers) that park behind this building in the alley on a regular basis for delivery, not just moving trucks, but bi-weekly delivery to the restaurant next door. I also have the identity of the guys hired for $20 by Atlantis who can verify that they were paid to do all the work while the "professionals" sat on the truck. I never even received an apology for this unspeakably poor service, let alone a refund.

I'm even more surprised that you would ask for MovingScam.com's help in resolving this issue, seeing as how you're Blacklisted there.

complaining is not slander!

First of all, I SERIOUSLY doubt the folks at MovingScam.com will side with you, Josh. But you're welcome to try. Why would your professionally trained and paid movers hire random guys off the street? What if one of the broker an item? Your insurance would certainly not pay for it, YOU would have. "Late delivery-Maybe,Our staff was rude-perhaps, Charged $600.00 for a Shuttle & long carry-Yes indeed. " This sounds like a WONDERFUL reason for a customer of yours to write a complaint. Complaints are not slander, they are airing of greivances, of which it sounds like Anna has several (for good reason!). And this is the perfect place to do so! But your only response to everything that went wrong is that the truck was too big to fit in the alley? Come on, at least be creative. But based on the following BBB report readily available, this is not a new position for you. 16 complaints in the past year alone? BBB MEMBERSHIP On April 22, 2005 this company's membership is suspended due to failure to honor an arbitrator's decision despite agreeing to do so. CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to its failure to honor an arbitration award after committing to do so. When evaluating complaint information, please consider the company's size and volume of business. The number of complaints filed against the company may not be as important as the type of complaints and how the company handled them. Closed Complaints Number of complaints processed by the BBB since the firm's BBB file was opened in August of 2002: 28 Number of complaints processed by the BBB in last 12 months: 16 Complaints Concerned Advertising Issues: 1 Outcome of the complaint - Resolved: 1 Sales Issues: 3 Outcome of all complaints - Resolved: 3 Delivery Issues: 10 Outcome of all complaints - Resolved: 7; Unresolved: 1; Company made good faith effort to Resolve: 2 Guarantee or Warranty Issues: 1 Outcome of the complaint - Resolved: 1 Contract Issues: 4 Outcome of all complaints - Resolved: 4 Customer Service Issues: 7 Outcome of all complaints - Resolved: 6; Delayed Resolution: 1 Credit or Billing Issues: 2 Outcome of all complaints - Resolved: 2 So where was the slander again?

Dear Sir or Madam, The price of your move did not increase by a penny.Every Document we have clearly explains the time table for deliveries. You did not pay for an exclusive move /truck. Please forward the pictures you have for evidence to Movingscam.com and maybe they will be able to explain to us how our 18 wheeler-53 foot truck was supposed to fit in your alley. Please... Late delivery-Maybe,Our staff was rude-perhaps, Charged $600.00 for a Shuttle & long carry-Yes indeed. But how for the love of god do you have the gall to come up with this slander. Yes,we have all heard the moving company horror stories, but in most cases there is always to sides to every story. At the very least have the common courtesy of asking for the companies side before publishing this nonsense.
