I made an online purchase of $10.00 on 8/3/09. I closed my two other accounts with BofA on 8/05 and was waiting for all transactions to be posted. On 8/06 I went into the branch, with the motive of closing my account. The teller looked at my account and said everything was out of Pending status and asked if there were any other transactions that would be coming through? I remembered my pay check via direct deposit would post one last time that night. I decided to wait one more day to close the account. She asked if I want to withdraw all my funds in the meantime, we then both decided to leave the change (.43) and I would come back the next day. This morning I checked my account and the purchase that had already cleared from 8/3 was now in the red, triggering an overdraft charge. It had a posting date of 8/06. I do know that things take awhile to clear, but it had already cleared as of yesterday, verified by their own teller. Bank of America reprocessed something that had already been processed in order to stick me with one more NSF fee of $35. I am amazed that they will do whatever they can, even fraudulent activity to get every penny they can from their own clients. Is this legal? Please tell me it is not and that I can do something about this blatant disregard for honesty and ethics. I cannot prove that everything was in the black yesterday, all of the online records and transactions reflect what they wish it to reflect. The only way to prove that they do this (I had called them on recharging me for purchases in the past) would be to take screen shots of my bank account every few minutes. This is no exaggeration and of course impossible. Please advise.

I went to my bank branch and explained the situation. I was shown their bank records, which did not show what I saw yesterday. Yesterday, at 6am...and all day long, said transanction shows processed and posted, no longer "Pending", no longer in the red. They asked me if I have screenshots of what I saw yesterday, which even he admitted was ridiculous. He told me that even though the teller saw my account is cleared, tellers cannot be trusted and they don't know anything. He said they can only see available balances and actual balances and should not say anything about other items like Pending transactions. I asked him why, 2 or 3 days earlier, when I had come into the bank to see what they said was still pending, the teller who was in training gave me pending information with her manager standing there and he approved everything she said. The manager I spoke to today said he doesn't know why that happened or how. He doesn't know how this charge reposted, if it did...and it's only my word against the computer. I have no proof. I was told I need to go to customer service for all my questions, but I've never seen a sign or direction or announcement stating that Tellers cannot tell you your account information. I have dealt with banks a very long time, this is the first I've heard that you cannot conduct such business with the very people the bank touts as their knowledgeable staff when they are courting your business. I was told I need to call their 1-800 number to discuss reversing the impending NSF charge. I asked how come the 1-800 number always refers me to the bank branch but now I am being referred to the number, aren't they only going to see the same misinformation on their screen? He said yes. I cannot prove what I saw yesterday, what the bank teller saw, what my boyfriend saw...Bank of America changes the order of transactions everyday. It's like a hall of mirrors. A check registry would show I made the purchase and it cleared yesterday. We are not talking about an overdraft, a purchase I made when I didn't have the money to cover it. Neither can I withdraw money against a pending charge, the available balance will not allow that. The charge was in the black and when I took out almost every penny in preparation of closing the account, they reprocessed it, at the very same time a few hundred dollars were deposited into the account. ( My last deposit with them that I thought may post, and it did ). I had the money to cover it six ways from Sunday. I was stolen from and the evidence erased. Witnesses are now in trouble, for something they do everyday, give customers account balance information. This is a travesty.

if the transaction had not reached the bank yet, the teller could not see it. That's why she asked you if there were any that you knew of. Transactions can take a few days to post to your account. The only way to be certain of your balance is to keep a check register. What did your check register say your balance was?
