I've been getting several overdraft fees from BB&T that were never my fault. The other day I went to check my bank balance and it was -0.84 so I went to the bank about it. The guy that helped me said that I had been charged an overdraft fee because I made two charges on my debit card that did show on the screen he showed me.

He could clearly see that the two charges only added up to $10 dollars and I had told him I had $57 dollars in my checking account. He laughed at me and said no you only had $7.00 in you checking account which I knew was not true because I needed atleast $37 in my checking account to pay for a gym payment. He called up everyone I had made purchases with trying to blaim them for it, invading my privacy and asking me all these stupid questions like am I sure i'm not crazy?

I even had a paper saying I had that money in my checking account and he told me not to even do the calculate thing to make sure I had the right amounts etc. because it would all be WRONG? How crazy! This makes me not want to spend any of it because I could have enough money and the next day be overdraft! Worst of all he told me I would be hit with another overdraft fee.

Now this was my question to him, if I only had $7.00 in the bank that day and the overdraft fees are $35.00 wouldn't that put me at $-28.00 instead of $-0.84? Not to mention BB&T had takin more money out than that because it was $57.00 to began with! He got quite and called for someone else to help me who also laughed with him because he was making a joke out of it like I was stupid and didn't know what I was talking about.

I'm still -30.84 and plus that other overdraft fee about to come which will then be $-65.84, but i'm not suppose to trust my calculations so it could be much more... I'm going there today to raise H*ll because I'm not going to be treated like i'm stupid then i'm closing my account down and moving to Suntrust. By the way I had an overdraft fee that didn't even show in my account at all, but they made me pay it anyway... It's pretty simple BB&T screw you over

Before You Run off....

and decide to open up another account, you might want to check and see how this new bank you're going to is going to treat you. You might want to do a search on it here - chances are your new bank will be worse. In fact, all banks are pretty bad, though some people are running to the bank you're having trouble with because many of their branches don't post debits in largest to smallest sequential order. So before you pull your money out, figure out where you're going to go to move your money FIRST. Instead of a bank, you may wish to find a credit union to put your money. Another thing that will help is to stop using your debit card for small purchases. If you use your debit card for small purchases under $10, you're just inviting the bank to charge you more in NSF fees. For example, if I have $40 in my account, I buy $50 in gas that I put on my debit card and pay $10 in cash for 2 different transaction elsewhere, yes I went over, and incurred a $35 NSF fee, which I am liable for. However, if I take the same scenario and put the 2 transactions totaling $10 on my debit card, my NSF fees are $105 and I gave the bank an additional $70. Yes, it means you have to carry more cash around. On the other hand, you then avoid giving the bank $70 simply by carrying cash. If you can't stop using your debit card for small transactions, then snip the card - just get rid of it. Finally, I don't know if you keep a written register of your transactions (a check register), but if you don't, I suggest you do. Stop relying on your online account to track your balance, because it isn't your balance. Your balance is what it says in your register and that is it. The only value in your online account is for you to track (1) any bank fees, and (2) fraudulent transactions. Best of luck to you.
