Beckie Wach, the DFW Salvation Army Commander, allows outright Abuse of the Salvation Army Residents at 1855 E. Lancaster Avenue in Fort Worth, TX. You will be REMINDED DAILY you are Homeless and TRASH. The Security Guards are extremely Agressive and daily they use THREATS, PHYSICAL INTIMIDATION and VERBAL ABUSE at the patrons, especially DERRICK, the big, black bald security guard.

Might I add that Derrick disproportionately targets the BLACK WOMEN in the shelter to physically intimidate and threaten. If he did this to white women he would be OUT OF THERE. But he is allowed to use his anger issues with WOMEN to get his highs out of abusing the shelter residents.

Every other word out of his mouth is BARRED. You will be BARRED for looking the wrong way at him or for not looking at him at all.

There is no one to complain to as security reminds people they are helpless and homeless and TRASH. Even though Security is just a few paychecks (or honestly maybe ONE PAYCHECK) away from being in the same predicament.

I believe that no matter one's station in life, everyone is afforded some amount of RESPECT. However, the Security at the Salvation Army Mabee Center, under the direction of Beckie Wach, suffers from the King's Complex, meaning they believe they are above IMPUNITY by abusing shelter residents.

I hesitated to type this complaint, because after all the place is a shelter which helps the less fortunate but then I thought about it. They draw GOOD SALARIES from the DONATIONS OF GOOD WILLERS who believe that shelter residents are being TREATED WITH RESPECT and not TREATED LIKE DOGS.

The overnight shelter residents are handed two sheets to sleep and then the temperature is dropped down to 20 degrees.  FREEZING COLD. And these people are sleeping under thin sheets.

They are then instructed to wash and dry with one of the sheets as there are no towels EVER given out. Imagine using the sheet you JUST SLEPT ON to Wash off and dry with! while it scrubs the floor and gets dirty.

There is no non smoking areas at the shelter and people with Asthma and COPD, even "CHILDREN" are told if they don't like being  around the CONSTANT cigarette smoke to HIT THE ROAD AND LEAVE. Smokers, evidently take PRECENDENCE. There is only one place to stand which is in the open rotunda which is a corridor which TRAPS ALL THE CIGARETTE SMOKE. And the place everyday is filled overwelmingly with CHAIN SMOKERS. No matter which way you stand you will get a face full of SMOKE. If you don't like Security will tell you to LEAVE.

No place is Perfect of that I am aware, but the Agression and Abuse by Security Guards, especially DERRICK, that motivated this complaint should NOT BE TOLERATED. As I stated, if this guy crossed the line with white person he would be kicked OUT. But as long as he does it to the downtrodden blacks who are in there NOTHING HAPPENS.

AND HE KNOWS AS LONG AS HE STEPS ON THE POOR AND BLACK AND VOICELESS HE WILL GET AWAY WITH IT AND EVIDENTLY HE'S CORRECT.

#2UPDATE EX-employee responds

I know Ms Becky. She was the Commander when I was a client and when I was an employee. She is a wonderful lady that over exends herself to help others. Not only is she invoved with the Salvation Army she also advocates in other community projects. Ms Becky is not the only person who clients can turn to. She has a whole team of profesional caring staff members willing to help her. Security personel are contracted and do not work for the Salvation Army. I seriously doubt that anyone is ignoring clients being abused. Complaints are taken very seriously.

I would ask to speak with the person in charge of the emergency shelter and to give your grievences in writing so they can follow up with you. Its always best to have a paper trail and its just as easy to do as writing in and complaining here. This way the lady whos reputation you are trying to destroy is given the oppurtunity to address any wrongs her staff and or others alleged to be doing. God Bless

Worked here - not true

This is so far from the truth.  I worked for Ms.Beckie for over 5 years....wish I still worked there.  She would in fact reprimand us if we were out of line and didn't model the core values.  She was not afraid to hold clients or staff accountable and remind us why we were all there.  She demanded the same level of respect from clients as she did staff.  In fact, even in this picture was employed during this time.  This was a family who escaped the Hurricane and ended up in a community shelter that was staffed by Salvation Army.  She learned that this baby had a birthday and on her own went out and bought a cake and presents.  After already working 14 hour days not sure many would do that.  Ms. Beckie your a gem...don't change!

Last Friday I ended up at the Salvation Army running from my abuser.  Ms. Debby and Ms. Becky went out of their way to keep me secluded.  They called the police and tried to get my abuser picked up.  Since that didn't work they then decided to place me in a van and taken to a police department in another city to be placed in a women's shelter.  I am here now and safe and away from my abuser and never going back.  When they took me out the abuser was yelling that he was going to kill me and hurt them and was the scariest thing.  I am still scared but away from my abuser.  Thank you Ms. Becky I will probably never see you again if you ever read this.  I would be dead if it werent for you and Ms. Debby.  I kept your card and will call you in a few months to let you know.  As for the person who complained, I never saw anything like what this person put out there.  The Salvation Army saved my life....Ms. Becky and Ms. Debby saved my life.

It's a shame!

It's a shame that someone can go online that most likely did something wrong in this case and brought unsafety to the center.  Ms. Beckie actually saved my life as well as my 5 year old.  She cares about what happens at the center and holds people accountable for their actions.  You must not have been doing what you needed to do to be able to stay at the center.  If you are so brave to post something like this online why don't you put your real name out there and be challenged?  Most likely when you do then the truth will be evident that you weren't doing what was needed to be done.  So go and smoke your pot or deal your drugs....meanwhile I am living happily in my home, went back to school and my daughter who is now 7 is doing great in school.....THANK YOU MS. BECKIE.  Please don't change your ways because of what a dope head punk says.

This statement is not true.  I would frequent this shelter and can attest that it is the safe.   i now live in my own housing  and thank God I found my way to them. Ms beckie would spend many nights late to make sure we were all ok.   she and ms bullok has no tolerance for  evil and if brought to her will resolve.   i in fact have noticed people who were out of line no longer employed. While there if anyone staying there acted out would be removed from the main area to prevent anything from happening and make it safe for those of us who just needed peace and rest.
