Today, 1/09/17 at 4:23pm my little brother (16) and I visited our local Best Buy store in Chesterfield, MI. We went in for a pair of book shelf speakers for my record player. We found the box we were looking for right away! Polk Audio T15 speakers. Their was only one box on the shelf, this box was damaged - with a big hole on the side. I brought the box from the display to the man who was standing near the entrance of the store, I asked if there was any way to check if their was another box in the back. He advised me to find an employee in a blue shirt. We brought the box to the electronic department counter. A girl greeted us and asked how she could be of service. We exlplained how we wanted an undamaged box. She looked into her inventory records on the computer and found that there was 4 in stock. She then asked a young girl to retreive the item from the back. The girl looked, and looked for roughly 10-15 minutes without any luck. She asked another employee to help her in the search. Finally she found one, undamaged. She explained that it was strange since they discovered that they had more then what the system was showing. She asked if we had a return and we said no, the box we had was from the display.

We brought the item home, to find out that it would not be compataible with my record player. We head back to out Chesterfield Best Buy to return it. We bring the box to the customer serivce desk and I had my brother (16) wait there, while I went to check if their was any other way it could be compatible with my unit. I spoke to an employee who was not able to figure it out. I head back torwards my brother and notice that a man was talking to him. I approach and the man asked me what we were doing. I simply said a return. He had been standing their accusing my brother of fraud, telling him that they watched us on the cameras earlier, and that the police could be involved. Appauled I let this manager know how wrong he was to insinuate, and accuse my brother of stealing. I told him that what he was doing was age discrimination and that he had no right accusuing him of doing things that we never did. The mans name was "Roz" the general manager. I will go to corporate but people need to know how this Best Buy location discrimates. I do not care what color you are, how old you are, or how you look, a customer, is a customer, and should never have to go through the embarassment, and harrasment we went through.

I mean what would a pair of TEENAGERS be doing in a store TWICE in one day? Normally it would be STEALING!! YOU have no one to blame EXCEPT your fellow teenagers!! THEY are the ones who have stolen and given teenagers a bad reputation in your area. Best Buy is WELL within thier rights to question YOU!! You are only partially correct, a customer is a customer unless they are just a thief!! YOUR age means YOU dont have the experiences that an adult will have and teenagers are PROVEN thieves. As teenagers YOU THINK that the rules dont apply, so you steal. Teenagers have ZERO respect for other peoples property, so they steal. Teenagers have mommy and daddy to bail them out, so they steal. Sonding like people YOU know? The point is the managers job is to ensure the safety of THIER product from thieves. If YOU were NOT arrested then YOU were NOT discriminated against. Im sure your self entitlment that mommy and daddy have given you tells YOU that YOU were discriminated against, REALITY is that YOU were acting shady and it drew the attention of managment!! Exactly how much of a PITA were you the first time?? Grow up child!! LIFE isnt the rosy place that it looks like at YOUR age. LIFE isnt FAIR!! While YOU have all the opportunities in the world at your feet, LIFE tends to screw you out of those. So in the grand scheme of LIFE you were just QUESTIONED as to what you were doing and NOTHING MORE!!! Quit trying to make a mountain out of a molecule.

I must first congratulate you on the amazing amount of fluff...umm "detail" you put into your report. After all you gave us down to the minute when you arrived there. You gave us a great narrative on just how long it took for them to find an undamaged box.

But you know what you left out? Anything having to do with the actual sale. There wasn't even a sentence on the process of you purchasing the item. You know things such as how you paid for it. After all if it is important for us to know they showed 4 in stock, it must be as important on how you paid for it. You then talk about returning with the box. Yet you failed to mention anything about the receipt. You did have a receipt..right? Or did you just happen to lose it in the couple of hours between the time you bought it and needed to return it?

Do you know what else you left out? Anything that would indicate you or your brother were being discriminated against because of your age.
