Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
We bought our son a Sansa Mp3 player in October of 2008 for his birthday. We were told by the employee at Best Buy that the 2 year warranty would cover anything, just to bring it in if there was a problem. My son's Mp3 player stopped working, we took it in, waited in line for them to help us like everyone else does.

Finally, the employee took his Mp3 player and turned it on and said that it "appears to be physically damaged" and said to my son you dropped it, my son advised he did not drop it, the employee stated that they would not repair or replace it. So basically we were lied to by a Best Buy Employee about how the warranty worked, we were told that if anything happens to it to bring it in for an exchange.

So here we are with a broken Mp3 player and disgusted that the employee would point the finger at us and basically tell my son he is a liar. What is the purpose of selling a Warranty if Best Buy is not willing to honor??? More money for them and us out the money we paid for both the MP3 player and warranty.

I contacted them and advised that if the situation was not rectified then I would be contacting our local News Jessie Jones King 5 Problem Solver to do an investigation. So now what? Best Buy should be ashamed of themselves, in the economic times they should be trying to keep customers, not screw them.

First off, Sansa is not an off-brand, unless you define anything other than an apple ipod as off-brand. Sansa is a respectable manufacturer of MP3 players and other small electronics. I also believe that it has only two buttons. Secondly, GSBTPs only cover accidental damage and handling on laptops. Nothing else. I know that many employees simply say 'it'll cover anything' and let it go, but that's not the truth. If it helps any, they don't lie on purpose. I only know about the things the service plans don't cover because of my own misfortune. I know the service plans up and down, and even before I got hired there, I knew them better than the man who trained me. He told me to simply say 'anything's covered.' If employees don't come here and read and listen, they have no way of knowing, really. That having been said, kids drop stuff. There's no way to prove it either way.

A few suggestions for you

You made several mistakes 1. never buy anything from bestbuy that has more than 2 buttons 2. You bought a generic off brand mp3 player and because of that you payed a price. 3. How do you know for a fact that your son is telling the truth, kids do lie after all. 4. Next time lie your pants off to them and it will get you much farther.

Depends on the type of warranty that was purchased

Okay, I understand being frustrated about the situation. I would be too! However, I do want to mention that it's going to depend on the type of warranty that was purchased. For the most part, the Geek Squad Black Tie Protection (abbreviated GSBTP from here on) covers accidental damage from handling. Now, depending on the type of coverage you have, it should be covered. Now, there are a few things that GSBTP does NOT cover, and that is if the item is lost, stolen, or completely submerged in water. What I would recommend to you is going to the store and talking with someone else, or if at all possible, going to a different store.
