I think there is more to this story. I used to work at Best Buy AND Circuit City. If your laptop truly was defective, then why didn't you exchange it? Neither store assesses a restocking fee for a simple exchange. From my experience, customers who buy a laptop and then have "buyer's remorse" -- aka, are sorry that they paid so much and simply do not want it anymore -- try to get out of paying a restocking fee by claiming that it is "defective," yet they refuse the offer to exchange it (of course, since they simply want 100% of their money back). If your laptop was truly defective, then the store should have offered to exchange it for a new one and you should have accepted. If you opted for a refund, that is fine too, but you are required to pay a restocking fee, as advertised in huge print all over the store!
