Sometimes nothing goes right at the Blockbuster store! There is a huge banner that spreads across the storefront, Rent 1 Get 1 Wednesday. Inside the store there are signs that read, Rent 2for5$, I selected two DVDs from this area and asked a store personel, if the Wednesday special applied to the 2for5 rentals, he responded, YES, all rentals. The same Wednesday ad is heard on the local radio station, on Wednesday rent one get one free.

Problem occurred at checkout, once rang up I realized my calculations and that of the receipt where different, so I asked the cashier who happened to be the store manager. She was adamant to say she was "blessing me with the best deal" stating that I could not have both specials. I asked for my money back, at which time she loudly began to explain to me why I was charged as such, and that the person I asked was new and did not know about the pricing. Again, I asked for my money back, and she proceeded to act irrational, saying the devil was alive in here today! and also stated she was not my slave nor my servant, she was the store manager and if I had a problem to take it up with BB Corporate.

Fine I thought, but give me my money back. The arguing went back and forth and she still was not making any move towards a refund as I pulled the cell phone from my purse and called the police. Once called, she then refunded my money. It was ridiculose, I felt as though I was on Candid Camera, the store was busy and several customers were waiting in line. The police came, informed me there was nothing I could do but file the complaint, which I promptly did.

Its been two weeks and I have heard nothing back from any representative of BlockBuster. Needless to say, I will not return to this store, and its a shame because there are nice friendly people there, this manager however needs a good lesson in customer service. I am not an argumentive person, but under the circumstances, I was not going to tolerate such behaviour, especially the comment with racial connotations, as I had certainly not warranted such a remark. There are too many competitors out there that are more than happy to be honest and fair and pleasant in their business.

BlockBuster should apologize, but I don't see it happening. They should change the manner in which they print the ads, but that is not going to happen either. Shame on us for allowing such business practices to exist.

It's all miscommunication

While reading your report, I didn't underastand what the problem was. I thought you were going to rent 2 DVDs for $5, but after reading further, it seems that you were expecting 4 DVDs for $5 (the 2 for 5 deal plus the 1 for 1 deal). This is where the problem lies. The manager most likely thought you were asking if the 2 for 5 deal applied to all dvds in which she said "yes". You in turn mis-interpreted this as being 4 for 5 (which is not the deal). As for the last half of your complaint, I won't comment. I find it difficult to make assessments given only half the story.
