BCBS of NE Pa. takes monthly payments for medical insurance they hardly ever allow to be used.

Payments are made by my bank ( with their billpay system)over 2 weeks before the first of the month and these payments are rarely posted by the first and causes the policy to go into a "grace period" as they call it..When the check is cashed the policy has already lost 2 weeks of protection.

Last Dec.16th they recieved my check and due to a policy increase they held this check till Jan. 12th 2009 before cashing it then informed me that it was being refunded due to incorrect amount in a letter recieved on the 15th..This is 30 days without insurance..

Currently they are holding 2 payments sent on the 16th of Jan.(payment for Dec 08 and Jan 09). It has been 25 days as of today and they are still investigating where these checks are. I have had no coverage since Dec. 15th 08.

When these checks finally are cashed I will have lost 2 entire months of coverage that i will have paid for.

If this company does this to a thousand other members it can easily be a million dollars in medical costs they wont need to pay, simply because they didnt provide coverage that was paid for ..

When i spoke to their customer service in defense their answer was:

"Tell the doctor or provider to rebill when the insurance becomes active"

This obviously does not work because many provider need some kind of payment code before giving any services, as I have found out the hard way..Even an emergency room visit at Pocono Medical Center turned us down because of this "grace period"
