Blue Ridge Mazda sponsors "contests" and "sweepstakes" to promote sales. The problem is that they and their promotion companies find ways to avoid distributing the advertised prizes.

My wife and I won a $150 gas card from Blue Ridge Mazda on 8/23/2008. The representative explained that they were all out at the moment and should check back later. We were told that the prize cards would be in on Tuesday or Wednesday.

We received a RAINCHECK for the prize that we had "won." The raincheck has no expiration date--but when I tried on 8/30 to pick up the prize that I won on 8/23--I was told that it could ONLY be collected on Wednesday 8/27. The raincheck said to contact on 8/27 to claim the gift.

Since we had already won the $150 gift card, AND we were present to collect it on 8/23--the delay and second trip we made were for the convenience of Blue Ridge Mazda. Instead, they used it as a way to avoid giving us the prize that was already ours by the terms of the contest.

When I asked to file a written complaint, Darin Duncan said it would not do any good because he was the manager. I asked fot the owner's name. Darin gave me the name Willie Ricjel but smugly told me that he would do nothing.

If Blue Ridge Mazda will cheat customers out of a simple $150 gas card can you trust them to be honest when selling you a car?

We bought a new truck from them two years ago. Our mistake. I hope this warning helps you avoid the deceptive practices that we experienced.

Blue Ridge Mazda Responded--Honored the Contest

After notifying Blue Ridge Mazda of this report, I received an E-mail from the Internet Manager. He invited me to come back and receive the prize we won from the promotion. I picked up the instructions and code to claim the $150 gas card prize on 9/2/2008. Darin Duncan was the manager who delivered the card. He explained that this was only possible because someone else did not pick up their prize. Another gentleman in the room said that he knew that I had been a customer and he hoped that I would continue to do business with them. Then he asked if I would "take down" the report. I told him that I would report that the company DID deliver the gift card after all. Darin explained that the promotion was run by a company that Blue Ridge Mazda had hired and that they were at their mercy. BOTTOM LINE: Blue Ridge Mazda delivered the card with the instructions on how to claim the gas card that we won. Thank you, Blue Ridge Mazda.
