Dave Spess is currently selling books on ebay under the store name " Bridgewaybooks " he is listed as being a member since April 26 , 2005. Seems he uses different names. The statement that he has no negative feedback on ebay is completely FALSE ( CHECK EBAY FEEDBACK ). I find the comment made that attempts to shift the blame on the victum to be completely OUTRAGEOUS and causes me to suspect that the person who made this comment is either a family member or a friend of the defendant or is very confused. Internet commerce involves an element of trust and for a person to make a deliberate and calculated attempt to induce a consumer to engage in commerce that is immune from the protection afforded by ebay is in itself a severe statement that the person is dishonest. I truely feel sorry for the victim , if trying to save a few bucks in this faultering economy is a crime then everyone I know would be in jail! The poor man has suffered a severe economic loss and has to deal with the lingering feeling of being conned and his trust exploited. Consumers should work together against dishonest elements and refuse to engage in commerce with anyone who defrauds others. I tuely adnmire that this victim has the courage to stand up for his rights and by so doing , much unnoticed by others , has taken measures to ensure and safeguard the rights of all of us. Please give this person your full and wholesome support and keep in mind that there were many hours of labor that this victim had to endure in order to generate such a substantial amount of money and it was all taken away from him and he was left with nothing!! Dave Spess has truely exploited this man and we all have a responsibility to help ensure that this sort of activity is brought to a most direct halt. I know that if I were this unfortunate victim it would be a great thing indeed if my community supported me and refused to engage in commerce with this person and spread the word about this man , Dave Spess and Bridgeway Books or Bridgeway Academic Booksellers and I strongly suggest that the general public actually reads this sellers current ebay feedback comments as it says it all! Bravo to you Mark you have my full and steadfast support.

Here is yet another reason why eBay discourages direct dealings between buyer and seller. Any seller who even attempts to get you to buy an item without going through eBay is up to no good on some level, even if they are just trying to get around the eBay fees (dishonest). Your issue has nothing to do with ebay per se, since the transaction never technically occurred there. About all you can do is send eBay any proof that he solicited to have you buy the items listed that you wanted outside the eBay system, which will likely result in account suspension or closing, for both of you. Since the seller has no items for sale on eBay, I suspect he could care less right now. I did note this seller has an excellent track record over the last few years, at least on eBay. Not one negative (in any form) since he opened his account in 2001, which is good enough for me to do business with him if he were selling something I wanted and could afford. Did you send the books back and require a signature receipt? Do you have a record of the conversation in which he authorized the return? Did you send the books back in unused condition within the three days he states? Did you insure the shipment? Lots of questions on this one, but it appears that by helping him do something dishonest to eBay, Kharma took a juicy bite out of your tushy for it. If anyone has a legitimate gripe, I would think eBay did!
