You just got scammed. This is an old scam that has been ripping people off. The check was never any good. I doubt that "Maybelle" even lives in Canada. Its too late for you, but hopefuly, others will learn from this.. 1. If you didnt enter a lottery, YOU DIDN'T WIN. 2. NEVER, NEVER NEVER send money to someone you dont know by western union or other "mailgram" service. Sorry, dear.. I will pray for you.

Your bank cleared the check in that time because they are rquired by law to do so. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean the bank on which the check is drawn cannot return it to be charged back. You were swindled. Plain and simple. I am sorry for your loss, and certainly you should file a police report, but the sad fact of the matter is that you are unlikely to ever see your money again.
