Complaint Review: Brooke M Shafer - Gilbert Arizona

Brooke Shafer was hired at Grace Plumbing Services, Inc. last July 2007. Over the next year she lied and embezzled over $30,000.00 from my company, she nearly put us out of business. When I discovered what she was doing my husband and I confronted her about it. She admitted to it like it was nothing. We told her we were calling the police and she said, "Please do not do that, I will get three jobs to pay you back".

What she meant was, allow me to get a job with another company and I will still their money and lively hood to pay you back! Of course we told this lying thief there was no way we were going to allow her to do this to another company or family. We did offer her the choice to get our money back to us and we would ask the court for to go easy on her. But with no thought at all she said I can't do that.

This is a women for almost a year bragged on how rich her parents are, and how her father was head doctor at a San Francisco Hospital. She wouldn't even call them and ask for our money back. She did not care that this was going to cause Grace Plumbing to have to lay off good employee's, not be able to offer great benefits to them. It was very apparent that she did this because of greed.

She had used this money to go on vacations, bought new living room furniture which she paid cash for, a 1ct diamond ring in Platinum Gold, a $500 dollar purse at some fancy store...the list goes on and on. This women took no thought for her two young children, who watched her being hauled away by the Chandlers Police Dept. She had no remorse at all. Three days later some how this women who had no resources to money to pay us back, bailed herself out of jail.

The police told us after investigating the case she was being charged with 50 felony counts. That she admitted to them of taking the money. Well it all sounds like justice will be served...but what about the money the company lost, the employee's we had to let go, all the donations we were making to homeless shelters that we no longer can do, what about that???

Brooke Shafer is one of the lowest people I have ever came across, I prey for her and her children. As you can tell by our company name (Grace Plumbing Services, Inc.) we are Christians. So I have to forgive her and what she has done. God will deal with her, I just want people to know what they are getting into if they hire Brooke as their accountant.

Oh! By the way, my husband called a previous employer and found out she had been fired from her job because that company had found fishy stuff going on with her books. Also her brother-in-law called my husband when she was arrested and told us he lived with Brooke in Las Vegas when one day out of the blue she came home saying she was moving to Phoenix that day...she packed her and her kids up and left that night, this man stated she was working for another construction company and he knew she was stealing money from them and got caught and fled the state before the could do anything about it.

Not sure if this is true, but it sure sounds like her. So please listen to me when I say she is a risk to your company. She hid all of this very well and even gained our trust and friendship. This women even went out with us to feed the homeless one Saturday morning, I have it on video tape. Very deceiving!!!

Like I said this nearly destroyed our company, my husband and I could not cash or write to ourselves paychecks for almost 6 weeks, we almost became homeless!!! No joke. Beware that's all I can say.
