We have a 2000 Buick Century, the transmission shift solenoid valve went bad at 54,000 miles. It had to be replaced at a GM dealership. Now the car has 71,000 miles on it and the problem has returned. The computer shows the same code P1811, cannot believe that this problem should come back in less than 20,000 miles. GM or Buick needs to recall.

I took and found the number for the National Safety Transportation Board, the toll free number is

1-888-327-4235 and reported our problem.

Everyone is going to have to call this number and report their problem. If you have had the car repaired, have your repair bill to give them the information. They will ask you what it cost, where it was done, your name and address and phone number and the name and address of the repair shop. Also the name of the place where you bought the vehicle, how many miles you have on it and the VIN number.

The part number for the solenoid valve is 10478146.

If everyone calls and reports this problem, GM will be forces into a recall. If you have already had your vehicle fixed, GM will have to refund you the repair cost, whether it was done by a GM dealer or a private garage.

I CALLED THE GM DEALER WE BOUGHT THE CAR FROM &SAID IT IS DOING IT AGAIN THEY SAID TO JUST KEPT DRIVING IT AND MAYBE IT WILL GO AWAY !!!EVERYONE NEEDS TO CALL 1 - 888 - 327 - 4235 & REPORT THE PROBLEM !!!

I KNOW OF THE SAME PROBLEM ON OLDSMOBILES

TOO!!!

STEVE DID YOU ORDER 23 BUICKS? When a State buys cars/ trucks for State police they are ORDERED. These VEHICLES are made better than what the regular customer buys. Their transmissions are better, Their suspension are better, Even their tires are better. GM BUICK knows they have a problem they just don't want to fix it. The dealer that I got my Buick from service department told me that YES We HAVE CHANGED THAT VALUE ON 1998 & 1999 & 2000 & 2001 & 2002. The service department said just drive and maybe it will go away. There are some buick websites. YOUR CAN SEARCH BUICK TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS OR 2000 BUICK TRANSMISSION THEIR ARE A LOT OF WEBSITES ABOUT IT. IF THEIR ARE 100 PEOPLE WHO HAVE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM ,THEN THEIR IS 1000'S WHO DON'T KNOW HOW TO REPORT THE PROBLEM Richard Front Royal Va.

Richard, I noticed that your post was under the dealer category. Wouldn't this complaint really be against the manufacturer of the valve itself? What was the warranty on the valve itself? If there was no written or implied warranty, you will have a problem. Buick/GM often do not manufacture parts. They buy them from an outside manufacturer and brand them under the GM brand/logo. And, this is not a real safety issue, as its failure is not likely to cause serious injury or death. I am familiar with the 2000 Buick Century, as we ran them as taxicabs in Las Vegas. We had 23 of these cars, and put over 80,000 miles/year on each car, and never once had this problem you claim. Your transmission may have a problem that is causing the valve to fail. I have never heard of this problem before.
