This happened in west Tx. My boyfriend was a victim of this "white van scam" recently this past week. They told him it was a one time deal they were trying to get rid of the merchandise that their company had already paid for but didn't want. He found a website online that said it was worth $2500 so he believed it was legit and paid $300 cash. It wasn't until I looked in the box a few days later and discovered right away he was scammed. There was no wiring, no amplifier, no instruction manual, the one wire they did provide had no copper. I opened up the speaker and found glued cement looking blocks and no circuit board.

I looked online for any consumer reports and then looked for any retail stores that sold this product and found nothing but scam reports for similar products. There are so many scam reports for Nolyn Acoustics that they may have only changed the name to Camden Acoustic to avoid getting caught right away. But the products are identical. Same set up same operation same garbage product same scam same rip off. Please do your research and ask ALOT of questions before buying "high end" electronics out of the back of a truck or van. Also check the product before you buy.

I am fully aware of scammers and the countless other scams out there. This report isn't about all the other scams, it's about this particular one. With that being said I fail to understand nor do I care how I gave you the impression that I'm unaware of other scams when I intentionally only discussed our experience with this one. Thank you for your comment and concern. As I stated before I am very aware, my intent is to raise awareness for the less informed, and ( as not previously stated because it's irrelevant) we are taking steps to find these men. I'm not seeking information or "education" on the matter though your comments may prove to be useful for other readers so thanks anyway.

My entire response is predicated on the context to get people to use some "common sense".  Which I am still not sure if you totally understand.

You seem to be under the impression that it is only this company that has their name used as part of "scams".  Other names I have seen are Genisis, Nolan, Camden, AR..just to name a few.  But speakers aren't the only things.  Go look up Leather Jacket Scam.  Which are "Italians" selling (insert brand name here) "Leather" jackets at a (surprise) huge discount.

So yes, when the very last line of your report is for people to do their research and ask "A LOT" of questions before buying equipment out of the back of a truck.  That shows you just don't get it.

Because as I stated the ONLY people selling high end equipment out of their truck, are either scammers or theives.  Neither of which you really want to get involved in.  So instead of asking "A LOT" of questions....give one answer and walk away.  Do you know what that answer is..."NO".  As the more you talk to them, the more they will try and convince you it is legitimate and the more you are going to want to believe them.  Ever hear of the term "Con men"...the "con" stands for confidence as they try to get you in their confidence before they turn around and take you for everything they can.

And if you are feeling like you are in a safe situation you could add something like "And I am also calling 9-1-1 giving them your vehicle description as well".

was this response meant to be helpful?

Yes he made a bad judgement call. People make mistakes. Trolling the Internet and making fun of people who fall victim to scam artists isn't helpful either. If that was not your intent then I apologize but you come off as extremely rude, sarcastic and unnecessary as we have already come to all of those conclusions ourselves. And since you speak sarcasm, you should have recognized it when you decided to quote it in your own response. There's nothing legitimate about anything being sold quickly out of the back of a vehicle by random unprofessionals. We get that. Sometimes it takes the worst to learn specific lessons. This is a lesson learned. We have no need for your sarcasm. My intent was to spread awareness NOT to seek pity. But thank you for reading

It sounded legitimate?

So I guess your boyfriend figures that it is an everyday occcurance to have people selling equipment out of the back of their car for almost 90% off.  Sure...totally legitimate.

The fact is that this is how these scams survive.  They deal with a person's greed...yes greed.  After all your boyfriend was probably thinking he hit the lottery and it was his lucky day.  He may have been thinking he could sell resell it and make a nice little profit.

You say that they changed their name because they didn't want to get caught.  Guess what....people that run this scam have been doing it for decades and rarely if ever have been caught.  These scammers go under many different company names of what ever "higher end" equipment they use as the "front" for the scam.

In the end there is really only two possibilities for the "legitimacy" of this transaction.  Either it is a scam, or you are dealing with stolen merchandise.  Oh and if it was the later and he got caught with it, do you really think a judge is going to believe that buying something out of someones truck for the price he did that he didn't know it was not on the up and up?

Please do your research and ask ALOT of questions before buying "high end" electronics out of the back of a truck or van.

- Or just don't deal out of the back of people's truck.  Even better get a description of the vehicle, license plate and call 9-1-1.
