Hi Diane;

I bought a truck for my son at Fast Cash For Cars (FCFC) on Saturday, June 28th at approximately 7:00 pm.  Since it was late on a Saturday, Steven Birdsong, FCFC Owner/Manager, agreed that since I could not get the truck inspected by our mechanic, he would fix any problems discovered during an inspection.  To make a long story short, the transmission went out the next morning and FCFC/Atlantic Tire had my son’s truck for approximately seven weeks.  We got it back once and had to have it towed back to Atlantic Tire (FCFC uses Atlantic Tire as their repair shop).  As of this writing, the truck is basically inoperable and unsafe.  The list of known issues:

  1. Transmission clunking
  2. Brakes scraping
  3. Belts squeaking
  4. Exhaust leaking
  5. Oil leaking
  6. Missing lug nuts on two tires
  7. A few minor/cosmetic issues

It has been almost 3 months since we bought the truck from Fast Cash For Cars and my son cannot drive the truck.  My son got repair estimates (he paid $40 to check the transmission and exhaust); he even paid to have the computer in the truck reprogrammed ($385).

I repeatedly called, texted, emailed and even went to the Fast Cash For Cars showroom, and no luck.  Mr. Birdsong will not respond to me in any fashion.

I filed a complaint with the BBB and with the NC Department of Justice.  FCFC has several complaints on the web (Google Fast Cash For Cars and read the reviews) and complaints filed with the BBB.

Would appreciate any assistance you may be able to provide.

Please don't refer to me as the person that ripped you off. I live in ny and am specifically on here to help people that need it because they got ripped off. Not people that made a mistake and didn't take the right precautions and are now paying for it. If you look into my profile you will see the multiple reports I respond too and everyone thinks I'm the person that " ripped " them off because I tell them the truth they don't want to hear and yes there are people who do get blindsided and ripped off on here and I try to help them the best that I can. you just aren't one of those cases.

I purchased the vehicle based on Mr. Birdsong's word and a handshake.  It was early evening on a Saturday, therefore my mechanic was unavailable.  Since Mr. Birdsong (or so he claimed) was a friend of a dear friend of my family, I took Mr. Birdsong at his word that he would fix any problems.  Yes, I am naive, I take people at their word and assume they are honorable.  Please remember Mr. Birdsong (or respondant, if not one in the same) the vehicle had to be towed to a shop because the transmission went out.  This vehicle was in "your shop" for approximately 7 weeks and still wasn't fixed properly.  Just spent almost $200 on a new battery.  Something is grinding in the rear-end, belts are squealing, oil is STILL leaking after 7 weeks in "your shop."  Keep in mind, the vehicle has not been driven much - it was either in the shop or sitting in front of my house because it will not start.

Am I a whiney, dissatisfied sucker, yes, most definitely.

I pray that others read my complaint, check out the BBB, Complaints filed with the NC DMV Enforcement Division of the Department of Justice, and depending on the dollar value, either Wake County District Court (Small Claims, less than $15K) or Wake County Superior Court.

And yes Respondant, always have a vehicle inspected BEFORE signing anything, especially at this place of business.

Do you have a warranty with this vehicle ?? Did you test drive the vehicle before you purchased it ?? And exhaust leak and transmission clunking would have been noticeable if you test drove the car. All I see is the truck missing a lug nut on a tire which sing that big of a deal. I really don't see from your description how it is unsafe. It seems to me that you made a bad decision on a vehicle purchase because a test drive would of prevented this. I'm getting tired of people coming on here claiming rip offs when they really aren't. You have provided no information that shows this is a rip off at all. It sounds to me like this is a case of a customer over reacting and didn't do there homework. if you have a warranty read what it covers. Get a car fax on a vehicle before purchase. Have a mechanic inspect the vehicle before purchase. Read contracts fully before signing.
