It's no secret that telemarkers will rip you off. In oder to protect yourself never give out information over the phone unless of course you have a relationship with the company, but even then your not completely safe. If a company wants you information over the phone ask them for a number that you can call the company back with. After getting the phone number (if at all possible get a regular phone number not a 1-800 number) but after you get the phone number, name, and address of the company check them out with the AG's office in the area of the company, the Secretary of State, and possibly the BBB in the companies area first. Learn about the cmpany first. As far as paying for the credit card? Never pay for a cc. Some credit cards have annual fees true, but these companies that charge $149.99 to $300.00 are most likely scams. These companies also target consumers who have bad credit, or no credit. The FTC has a great informational site @ www.ftc.gov. If your educated about the types of scams that happen you won't get scammed. You can also check out fraud.org thats a good site too. As for the money you lost? Unfortunatly its probably too late to get that back unless you have a realy great bank. The only thing you can do now is contact the proper agencies to makea complaint with, and hope fr a refund, that is w/o a lawyer.
