After months of harassment I decided to settle with Card Service Center or Cardworks which use to be Providian. I made the first payment as I should and they cashed my check as they should, however they did not apply it to my account and charged my account off (the account # was written on the check and a copy of the settlement letter attached with the payment date highlighted).

I got the letter in the mail regarding the charge off and called them immediately explaining that they couldn't charge my account off if they already had my money in their pocket. I was told by the man on the phone (who would not give me his name) that he didn't want to hear my sob story and I might as well cry to Microsoft. I asked if it was standard procedure to be rude to customers and he stated that it was his god given right to be rude. I told him I will be writing to the BBB and he said I could write to the Federal Government for all he cared and all they'd do is through my complaint in the waist bin and then hung up on me.

I called back and the next woman named Trudy told me that they didn't show I made a payment and I could resettle for the full amount. Needless to say I got a hold of the cashed check and faxed it to Anthony Scaramuzzini (in their recovery dept). He was helpful and said he'd take care of my account... It would then show as "settled" on my credit report... That was in November of 2004

Got a copy of my credit report today 3/03/05... NOT SETTLED... CHARGED OFF!!!!! Called up good old Anthony... He's not there anymore... After explaining my story to the person on the phone who said they could help me, all I got was a you just want to hear whatever you want and then there was silence because I had once again been hung up on.

I have been frustrated to the point of tears with all of this and have been dealing with the horrible company since July... How can a company treat their customers like this and get away with it?

kasey, just for the record i am still employed with card works. whenever you settle your accounts, always ask for a Settle-in-Full letter. did you receive your letter??? a company reports to the credit bureau once a month. once the information is submitted to the credit bureau it takes up to 90 days. if your bureau has not been updated this is a credit bureau dispute. card works updates credit bureaus the third saturday of every month if you wish to contact me to expedite this matter i will be happy to assist you i will gladly make sure you receive a letter with the correct date that your account was SETTLED IN FULL . as well as make sure your credit bureau is updated to reflect a SETTLED IN FULL status should you wish to contact me at card services i will be happy to assist you to resolve this matter....866-210-9497 ext 4286
