It all started on Craigslist. I saw an ad under Jobs with the heading: Full Time Clerical/Data Entry Position - $18-$24/hr! Admittedly, the ad was a little vague, but I responded with my resume to a Sarena Rivers anyways. I received a reply from her surprisingly shortly which said:

"Thank you for your interest in the Clerical/Data Entry position. To complete your application and submit it directly to the employer, please click on the link below.

I immediately recognized it as an automated response and its what first tipped me off. But I followed the link posted in the body and continued the "application process" which basically consisted of me entering my personal info and then responding to questions about higher education which struck me as REALLY suspect. Of course I was then redirected to select to receive info from several online schools, of which, they tell you you can opt out of, but you can't continue unless you select a school. I went ahead and selected a school, all while knowing in the back of my mind, this would only confirm my growing suspicion and it did. One of the online schools has contacted me about 6-8 times in the past two days. VERY ANNOYING!!! I went back to CL and flagged the ad.

Then, I received a second e-mail encouraging me to continue and answer some more questions to continue with the hiring process. This one goes like this:

"According to our records you recently applied for a Clerical/Data Entry Position - $18-$24/hr! position within Free Career Placement. A subsequent review of you application reflected that you have the skills and abilities that are required for employment in this position.

So I went back because I was curious and sure enough they were trying to scam me into signing up for some services about debt consolidation and stupid garbage like that which only aggravated me further. I should have left it alone. Not only is it frustrating to have to search for a job, but then to come across time-wasters and scammers like this is too much for words. Please be aware.

I continue to receive e-mails from career network and their 'affiliates' which includes futurecareersnow.com. There have been others as well and I always scroll to the bottom to unsubscribe my address from their databases and lo and behold a week later I get an e-mail with very similar formatting from a slightly different alias of career network.
