I have a leased Volvo. Volvo's have a horrible resale value and at the time that you bought it from their it was the fair market value at the time. YOu have to understand that financing can cause a price to go up. Whats your interest rate and how long is your term? Did you put money down? Did you have negative equity rolled into your loan? Carmax is a great company and you should know all your facts before rolling companies under the bus.

As your title reads, ignorance is NOT Carmax's fault, but your own. An uneducated buyer will suffer the consequences of not taking the time to research his commitment, and trying to blame the mistake on the company is outrageous. Researching a fully loaded Volvo S60 (giving the benefit of the doubt), with the given specifications gives a trade-in value of $11,000 in excellent condition (again, benefit of the doubt) at the time of this post. This means that Carmax was offering you the MAXIMUM amount based on Kelly Blue Book value...an offer that is rare, indeed. At the same time, researching the same car in today's market with minimal options (to give worst case scenario) and the same mileage at retail value gives you a price of $16,000. What I see here is a person who made an uneducated decision to buy a car that has a high rate of depreciation. The car may have been slightly over-priced, but not enough to complain about. And if the customer agreed to pay the amount then the fault is not with the company over the price. It all comes down to you signing the contract. Also, the offer to buy back the car seems MORE than reasonable (coming from someone who has been in the business . What you fail to understand is that the company must, once again, make profit off of your vehicle and if you expected any more for a vehicle that is known for high depreciation, then you are mistaken, with all due respect. I hate to see a good company's name being tainted due to a customer that is unsatisfied due to their own misinformation.

Millie, come on. Obviously you were happy with the 19,900 you paid for the car otherwise you wouldn't have paid it. How do you think car dealers make money, buy low, and sell high. Don't blame CarMax, you have options, sell the car privately.... or keep it. I don't think you over paid for the car, your mistake was trying to sell it back to CarMax.

I do know if you try and trade in anything at a Dealership including Carmax you will never get what you should. It's the same why with a used car it's better and to purchase a brand new one for a couple of thousands more. Carmax has so many tricks that have created to get as much money out of the buyer as possible. Good Luck in the future with these Dealerships!

You Purchased the wrong vehicle

I can understand your anger in regards to you car being undervalued but this is Florida where imports, especially Volvos are not the hottest thing on the road. When determining value of a vehicle they go off area market conditions. Now, if you lived in Los Angeles your car may actually hold better resale value but Volvos in general do not hold their value well at all. I have worked in the used car market and we would stay away from Volvos due that very fact. The only value to them is their safety record.

Carmax Not @ Fault

It's not Carmax's problem you didn't research your vehicle, before purchasing it. They stated you could trade it later, and they've never stated you couldn't. You're upset that your car isn't worth as much as you'd like. Carmax isn't at fault, plain and simple.
