I cancelled my auto insurance effective June 12, 2002. I had pre-paid for a 6 month policy. I received my cancellation letter in return within one week of sending my cancellation request. Now, 3 months later, I have not yet received my auto insurance refund. I have contacted the company at least 4 times via telephone to inquire as to the status each time I was told it was on its way any day. They even gave me an expected amount I would be getting and it should be sent out next Monday, etc. That was two months ago! I had my pre-paid legal attorney send a collections letter to this company with permission to contact me directly in this matter and they have not responded at all. That was August 21st, 2002. My last contact with them. I am tired of having to chase down my money - that I am owed! I am not a bill collector and it seems they know it too. They are taking full advantage. I also then received a collections letter from them for $0.00 stating that I had not paid enough money for coverage they had offered me during that time "in good faith" and that I should remit the remaining balance. I flipped! This was what led me to send the letter from my attorney. Do I have to sue these people? It's dumb. It's not even $200, but its $200 I need! I have requested help from the state insurance board to resolve this. Hopefully they will help me.
