Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I use an out-of-state bank because I also get my car insurance through them and I get a good deal. My paychecks are direct deposited but once a month I get a bonus check which I normally cash at Wal-Mart. I was out of work for 3 weeks and received a check from the state Employment Department, which (by the way) does NOT indicate fron which bank the account is drawn.

It was evening and banks were closed so I went to Wal-Mart – where I always go. They know me in there. The cashier (who must have been in a bad mood) refused to cash my check because the "JR" was missing from the end of my name on the check. The address and everything else matched my driver's license. I complained to the manager but got nowhere.

Being used to getting paid weekly and having had no pay for 3 weeks, I had only $5 left in my bank account so I really needed that money. I had just been called back to work and needed to gas the pickup to get there! Fred Meyer was close, so I went there to cash the check. They were happy to do it, despite the missing "JR" because the address matched my DL. However, when the gentleman ran it through the system, he got a message declining the check. He handed me the phone number for Certegy and told me I would need to call them to find out why they wouldn't cash the check.

Upon calling Certegy, I was asked for my name, phone number, social security number, etc. I also gave them the check number, routing and account numbers, check amount, and who issued the check. After searching the system and NOT FINDING ANYTHING, I was told that the check was declined because I had apparently done something out of the ordinary when cashing the check but other than that, it was not my fault that the check was declined.

All I could figure was that since I normally cash checks at Wal-Mart, a flag went up because I was using Fred Meyer instead of Wal-Mart. Desperately needing the money, I decided to drive across town to the other Wal-Mart. The cashier there attempted to cash the check but also received a message declining the check.

Once again, I called Certegy. Once again they couldn't find the check in their system. BUT again I was told that it was nothing I had done that caused the check to be declined. The man on the phone couldn't seem to answer any of my questions. He did tell me not to attempt to cash the check anywhere that uses Certegy because they are all linked. I fortunately found someone to give me a ride to work the next day.

I called the issuing agency the next day to find out where I could cash this check. When I explained to the agent what had happened, she informed me that since Certegy had flagged the check, I would not find ANYONE to cash it – even a bank. My only option was to take the check back to the agency so they could do an automatic deposit into my checking account. (They didn't do this originally because they always send a paper check out the first time when you qualify for unemployment.)

My wife was able to borrow from a relative to cover the check until we get the money. Otherwise, we would be in BIG trouble. All because this Certegy company (which I'd never even heard of before) decided to flag my state-issued unemployment check. What a hassle and a heartache. Their "foolishness" ended up costing me a lot in fuel with all the running around I had to do, JUST to get money I am entitled to.

I think Certegy is bad news.

You're making a lot of assumptions there Mr. Entitlment (Tyg). Maybe you should go to school instead of blasting people you don't know on the internet.

I did NOT blast a legitimate company. I came on here to tell my story. And yes, I HAVE paid into the unemployment system and I am getting what I need from it and ONLY what I need. There was a lack of work at the job I have held for over 7 years. Through no fault of my own, I had no work. It isn't FREE MONEY. Why don't YOU refuse your welfare checks when they come? Because I must assume from your tone that you are on public assistance. (Not really – just trying to make a point.)

I am very much a hard-working American. The only time I don't work is when there is no work for me which does happen occasionally in the business I'm in. And I don't even own video games. I don't even have cable or internet. Every penny I earn goes to support my family and we don't have money for extras. That's why this check was SO important. The kids are getting tired of eating Mac-n-Cheese every single night.

Mouth-breather, eh? "I swear you people get dumber by the day......" Who are "you people"? What makes you different from everyone else? Being a responsible adult, I came here to warn other people about this company. I have also taken other steps to resolve the situation by returning the check to the agency and having the money directly deposited into my bank account. I have NOT asked anyone to do anything for me.

Next time, please read and try to comprehend the entire post before blasting the author. This was NOT a third party check and it was not written by me. I think craigslist would be a better place for you to express your feelings.

I will not respond to any more of your attacks, so don't bother to post any more.

But thank you so much for your (non) input. Have a great day.

Entitlement IS your issue. You feel its perfectly alright to blast a legitimate company because YOU had issues. Not to put too fine a point on this BUT you are not entitled to ANYTHING in this life. There was a issue and they couldnt cash your "free money" check. Get over it princess. You can whine and post all you like but it still wont change the fact that YOU were flagged.

And not to put too fine a point on this but your unemployment check is paid NOT from what you have put into the system, but off the backs of every hard working American out there, including the people you so kindly badmouth. Maybe a little appreciation on your part since its all of America that has to make sure YOU get paid. Each and EVER person you talked with has ZERO direct control over WHY you were flagged. Youre a self entitled mouth breather that feels its perfectly alright to take money from these people but have no problem naming them online for what is YOUR ISSUE. There was a time that Americans would have been appreciative of the small fact that EVERYONE ELSE who has a job has to pay for you to sit on your a$$ and play video games all day.

Get over it because there is NOTHING that ANYONE can do for you. A third party HAS to be used to keep ALL PARTIES from fraud. That third party flagged your check AS FRAUD. You will just have to deal with the fact that there was an issue. A responsible ADULT would have taken a different approach to the situation. We see what your course of action is.

I swear you people get dumber by the day......
