Chimney Solutions - CSI - American Chimney Sweeps chimney sweep rip offs and con artists Addison Illinois
Avoid Chimney Solutions, Inc (AKA CSI) out of Addison, IL at ALL costs. We saw their ad in one of the local coupon books and called them to clean our fireplace.
2 young men, actually more like boys, showed up at our house. If they were over 21, I would have been amazed. The kid in charge was named Rich, and I don't remember what his side kicks name was.
At first, things seemed to go ok, one of them stayed in the house to do the cleaning, and Rich went onto the roof to do some sort of inspection to make sure our chimney was safe to be used, or so he said.
Initially, he came off the roof saying we needed a new cap and gave us a price to replace it. I thought the price was a little inflated, but since it seemed like it needed to be done and I didn't want to mess around with it, I told him to swap it out.
After that I had to leave to go into the office, and left my wife behind to deal with these con artists. According to my wife, this kid Rich kept coming down off the roof to tell her of all these things that had gone wrong with the last person who was out to work on our chimney.
By the time I had come home, there was $1200+ worth of "repairs" done to our chimney. The first tip off that something was wrong was when I went to read their invoice of what was wrong with our chimney. It made no sense and seemed like a bunch of double talk.
The second tip off was my wife told me they were only there an hour after I left.
I called their offices to have them explain their invoices to me. The girl in the office told me she would have Rich call me to explain it. I had to call them back 3 times over two days before he called me. When he was first there he seemed pretty young, but like a nice enough kid, but on the phone he sounded drunk and was belegerant about the repairs done.
After speaking to him, I called their office again to complain and speak with the owner about what had happened. I was told by the girl in the office they don't give out the name of the owner. Which seems like a huge problem.
I then went to the Better Business Bureu's web site and found they have a LOT of complaints and use to be known as American Chimney Sweeps.
I've contact my lawyer and am in the process of seeing what can be done to recover my money. Unfortunately, I've probably just had a $1200 lesson. AVOID THIS COMPANY

Just to let everyone know, the owner of Chimney Solutions name is John Judd. He is actually an ex-employee of mine and I encountered two things right before he decided to quit working for me and go out and give the chimney sweep business the horrible name he has been doing for 6 or 7 years. Right before he quit he actually tried to rip me off with one of my own customers. Thank god I interceded and explained the situation to my customer and she proceeded to not let him on her property to finish the work that was supposes to be done by my company in my companies name,not his personal name, very shady on his part. But what's worse is shortly after he quit my office was broken into and many of my previous customer sheets and the name of the company that supplies me with new customer names was stolen. Now I don't have direct proof (like fingerprints or an eye witness) but a funny coincidence that he started calling the customers we were calling the very next week. And to this day he instructs his telemarketers to tell potential customers of his that we are out of business. Somehow, someone, should put this scam man down and out of biz, unbelievable he isnt in jail yet.
