Chris Hicks was hired to do a remodeling job at a house I own in Rabun Country, Georgia. He was given free run of my house to completely gut out and remodel one bathroom, replace, fix, or repair all plumbing in the house; remodel old very small kitchen to make a bar area and make a new kitchen on the lower level of the house. Chris Hicks started this job the first week in May. I had to meet him at the Home Depot in Buford to show him what a full size drain pan for the shower and sliding glass doors were. I know, I should have stopped at that point. My choices of contractors in Rabun County were very slim. He seemed the better of the three.

When he came to putting the tile on the bathroom walls, he installed the 16" sq kitchen tile on the bath walls and when I saw it, I called him and asked him what he was doing putting the kitchen tile on bath walls. He said, "I thought it was really hard to put up." It was sliding off the walls. He had to remove it all and install correct tile. He then called me to pick up the vanity and the light fixture for over the vanity. Said we would adjust for the costs at the end.

He reinstalled the old towel racks, switches and outlets. I can only go up there on the weekends and my house was a total wreck every time I went. I had to spend the first whole day cleaning up after him. I had to tell him he needed to seal the tile and grout. The tile he laid on my kitchen floor looks as though an amateur laid the tile. The grout looks terrible and he used the cut pieces he had put on the bathroom wall and filled large areas with grout to compensate. The kitchen cabinets do not shut properly and he had asked me to pick up the knobs for the cabinets which he has never installed.

The island has a venthood and he ordered a block of cabinets to go over the stove and put the venthood under the block of cabinets. These were the wrong cabinets for the island. Since Chris Hicks "worked on on plumbing" the fixtures in the downstairs bath do not drain properly. When taking a shower, the tub fills with water and the toilet does not flush properly.

Close to four months from the start of this job that should have been done in less than two, Chris Hicks finally returns my call and says he has the right cabinets and in one full day he should be through with the job. I had changed the locks on the house and had told him to call when he was ready. My son left the house open for him to start work which was a mistake. Chris Hicks went in and read the list I left of the items needed to be corrected and he left. I am almost positive he installed the old kitchen sink which was in the house when I purchased it, in my new kitchen and the faucet was an old fashioned type that I did not like. I asked Chris Hicks to give me the receipts and I would return them and buy new ones and replace them at my expense.

I tried all day to contact him to no avail. Chris Hicks finally called me at approx. 5:15 p.m. on the 8th day of August and told me " you are too picky and I can't please you." I told him I only wanted him to do what we had agreed on. Chris said he was through and my son could finish the job.

Now I am stuck with trying to order new cabinets for my island and the installation and all the other numerous items that need to be fixed. He pulled siding off my house and never replaced it and made a cut in the siding all the way across the back of the house to run wire, ruining the siding. I would never recommend Hicks Building and Remodeling AKA Chris Hicks to anyone.

The Ripoff Report made by Patsy H. Williams is totally wrong-What actually happened is this-
The summer of 2007 Patsy H. Williams hired me to do a job at Sky Valley, Ga.  The job was actually finished once then she changed her mind several times on the design of the island & stove & several other things-this cost me money each time. She was very unpleasant to work with almost from the beginning.

I did a lot of work but as she kept changing her mind & I was losing money I knew the wisest thing for me to do was to get my equipment, tools, etc. & leave the job.  The day I finally decided to give up I had picked up custom cabinets I had built to suit her & which I had no use for & I was stuck with them but even considering this I felt it best to get away from this woman.

When she realized I was sincere in pulling off the job she asked me to stay.  If she was so unhappy why would she want me to continue?

I billed her for the work completed & she responed she did not owe me that much.   Her attorney called & offered me a pittance of what she owed me & at that point we went to court.  Considering I had all the paperwork, pictures, etc. the Judge did rule in my favor.  I thought it was finally over but her attorney filed an appeal.  At this point I hired an attorney & again we were supposed to go to court.  I was very busy at the time & my attorney fees were mounting so my attorney advised me to settle out of court which I did for much less than was owed me.  Throughout a process I understand she had done this to at least one other contractor so contractor beware.  I have been in business for 25 yrs. & I have never run across someone this hard to work with or knew how to rip off a honest contractor so well.  I also have had no complaints such as this before or since.

I have many good references if interested.
