When I installed Quicken 2005 an offer for a free credit report popped up. The offer was to get my credit score and to use CIC's credit monitoring service for 30 days without charge if I cancelled before the end of the free trial period. When the service, CIC Credit Monitoring did not deliver what they promised, i.e. my credit score, but wanted additional money to obtain it, I called to cancel.

I received a recorded message that all their lines were busy but if I was calling to cancel I could send them an email and they gave me the email address. I promptly emailed them, well before the end of the 30 day trial period. Nonetheless, on my next credit card statement I discovered that CIC had charged me in spite of having cancelled. Soon thereafter I received an email notice from them that my credit score had changed and they gave me the link to their web page so I could access my account. I went to their web page and Itried to access my account but was told I had no account.

I took this to mean that I finally had been in fact cancelled. I decided to write off the one month they had charged me as my just deserts for not smelling an obvious scam. Well, another month went by and I have been charged again for CIC's non-existent "service". Now I see that many complaints have been filed against CIC and a class action suit may be in the offing. In retrospect, it appears that the phone message they gave me telling me to email them to cancel was just part of their fraud.
