Cingular does have the largest network, but it does not reach to where there is not a high population. It costs a ton of money to put up and run one of those towers, therefore if we don't have enough people in an area to cover the cost of that tower (and profit, we are a business after all!) then we won't put a tower up. Now if you happen to live on the outskirts of a tower's signal (We never told you to live in No Man's Land) then you will see very little to no service. Especially in a house or car! Now, there are some cell companies that realize this and decided to spend less money to send out a signal for your phone to pick up when you don't pick up ours. Then this company charges an arm and a leg to Cingular for every minute you use. Most of Cingular's plans keep you from being charged roaming and we will pay your off network bill for you. We don't have anyway of telling how much of your "percentage" you've used, but as for advice, if the main screen of your phone says "Cingular Extend" or the name of any other company, then don't use your phone, that's roaming. So in short: 1). You're in a rural area. You chose to live there. Hutchinson, Kansas is not anywhere near Dallas, Chicago, New York, Houston, or LA. 2). We could go back to charging you for all the roaming charges. (And if you've had to talk to our Excessive Off-Network dept, you don't want to know how much you'd have to pay!) 3). We choose to spend our money smart by servicing areas that's going to produce profit, not creating weaker towers and signals to leech off another companies lack of rural service. 4). Service can change without notifying you, it's in the contract that you agreed to. Most (95%) of the time, we do notify you as a courtesy. Read the bill for any changes. 5). All major cell phone providers do this as well, so you can't really escape it.
