Circuit City Ripoff on their 'interest free promotions' Albany Georgia
I purchased a laptop for something like $2100 in February 2004. At this time I also purchased an Svideo cable for $43. I have been faithfully sending in payments of $100-$150 per month on the total balance.
When I applied for credit I was told that my entire purchase had to be paid off within 1 year so I would not accrue any finance charges (interest free financing for a year. Apparently... circuit city ONLY applied my payments to my 'promotional item' - that being the laptop. So, this entire time that $43 (which I was told was also part of the promotion) has been accruing interest for 11 months!! You have to specify where you want your payment to go when you send them money! Meaning, you have to have correspondence stating... apply XX amount to promotional item and XX amount to other items purchased. Well, the statements I receive very boldy state... do not send correspondence. So what is a person to do? I trusted the salesperson when they said my entire purchase was on the interest free plan.
I made regular payments like I was suppose to... the entire time thinking that I am doing the right thing... only to find out that the entire time Circuit city is tacking on interest.
Not once in all the times I have called them in the last two months has anyone told me this, nor did the salesperson that sold me the equipment. This is totally ridiculous. Be VERY VERY cautious when dealing with Circuit City. The people I have dealt with have been nothing better than a used car salesman that will tell you anything so you make a purchase.

I called FNAB (citcuit city financing) yesterday and spoke directly with a supervisor. I finally got some FANTASTIC customer service. He was very knowledgeable as to what was going on and very considerate. Unlike the grunt that I talked to earlier that day. All finance charges were removed from my account from the 'additional cable purchase' that I made the same day that I bought my laptop. I explained how I was told that my entire purchase was going to be interest free when I bought the items. No questions asked...refund. The refund was only a few dollars, but it was the principle of what was going on. We are still working on a returned check fee that I was charged. Circuit city said my check was lost....i cancel check...next day FNAB posts it to my account... Thank you MARK @ FNAB/Circuit city financing.
