The mysterious Richard was correct. The return policy would have restarted with the new product your purchased, so something is not right. I'm not sure why there is confusion on the store's part on that point. It might be worth it to just give the store a call and ask them a general question about that return policy. If they respond correctly, you should explain to them that you were told the wrong thing the second time you were in the store and get them to rectify your problem.
