Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
Sept 16 2008 around 2pm I went to CitiBank at 4065 S Jones Blvd, Las Vegas Nevada to cash a check drawn on their account.

The business check had a signature endorsement stamped and signed by my bank (Wamu). I was forced to take the check to the issuing bank due to the 10 day hold Wamu placed on all checks for new account holders, and the move to Vegas used most of our funds in our Cleveland bank.

I presented the check to the teller who told me she could not cash the check, but I could open an account or they could convert the check to a cashiers check for ONLY $10.

The manager of the bank was in no mood to hear my complaint that this was their check written by their customer. This is the first time in years I went outside of one of my banks and was astonished that a bank would charge a fee for cashing a check written on their account.

I told her I would be happy if she could waive the $10.00 fee, but she steadfastly refused my request.

I left with the corporate headquarters 800# and attempted to work with corporate, but they could not override a bank manager.

I was not about to open an account with a bank that rips off the public like this. It is not the money, but the principle of the bank ripping you off if you are not their customer and trying to blackmail you into opening an account...

Talking with my bank (Washington Mutual-Wamu) I was told they do not charge non-customers to cash a wamu check written to them with proper identification.

I will now advise everyone of the CitiBank Rip-Off and advise their customers to find a more consumer friendly bank. This is the only way to start changing the banking industry and the million-dollar lobbyists paid to keep the high fees that banks (and now payday loans/check cashing facilities) charge...

If you're not a customer of WAMU - they will ABSOLUTELY charge you the fee for cashing one of their checks. What this bank did is STANDARD throughout the industry. It is not a rip off.

This fee is actually quite common. You were not forced to take the check there, you just didn't want to wait.
