Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
A "door knocker" made an appointment for a free "Home Energy Audit." We had been thinking of having this done for some time and had been contemplating calling the local power company to do it since they offer that service. I asked if they were "selling anything," and naturally the "door knocker" said no, they would not try to sell us anything.

The "non-salesman" arrived on time and proceeded to go around the house with a digital thermometer checking the temperature of the air conditioning vents. He went into the attics of both the house and garage, measured windows, and checked duct work.

After this we sat down at the kitchen table and he proceeded to lay out a plan whereby we would save, "...at least $175.00 a month on..." our utility bill if we followed his advice and had the work done that he recommended. It was at that time that he started to toss out numbers faster than a hyper bingo announcer on steroids.

"With this plan there's no payments for seventeen months." "Look, you're gonna save $25,000 over ten years." "This plan will pay for itself in 2.8 years." "You're gonna get back $4500 from the Federal Government in January plus $500 from the state plus $400 from the power company, plus, plus, plus." During all this, he called GE Capital on his cell and, because I have a credit rating in the 800s, was able to instantly arrange for a $15,000 line of credit to cover solar vent fans, re-insulating the whole house, hurricane proofing every window and other stuff. "Only 36 payments of $176 a month,." he proudly announced after hanging up the phone. "Now, remember I guaranteed you that I would save you at least $175 a month or I would make the payment? Well, here's your dollar for month one." And, with that, he tossed a dollar bill onto the table.

So, like an idiot, I signed up. He quickly scooped up all his scribblings and papers and left. Then, my brain actually started to function and I crunched the numbers. $176 for 36 months is a little over $6500. That can't be right. So I called GE Capital and they said that they had told the salesperson that the payments would be $405 a month for 36 months. Well, guess what? The number $405 never left the salesman's mouth. Hummm... maybe I'd better investigate a little further.

One of the parties involved reportedly just had properties foreclosed on and is pretty desperate for cash and the other was allegedly involved with a mob based stock scam back in the nineties. Since neither of these guys are the caliber of person with whom I care to do business, I canceled the order pursuant to the state's "3-day cooling off period" law and closed the GE Capital account.

Beware of door to door salesmen. And especially beware of CM Builders of the Gulf Coast /dba/ Florida Energy Management and Guardian Solar.

My friend you are very lucky to catch this so quickly. Mr. Minksy is currently under federal investigation. The CIA went to his south suburban Chicago home and executed a search warrent only a few months before you had the pleasure of doing business with him in florida. Dont feel bad you got scammed, you are just one of many. He is a well spoken individual that promises incredible results that are impossible to deliver. There is also something to be said about a company that employs a individual like this. Since Mr. Minsky is originaly from Florida it leads me to believe this might be a family business.

#3UPDATE Employee

Wed, July 28, 2010

The consumer who filed this report unfortunately has truly done and injustice to all those who could benefit from the outstanding consumer services C.M Builders has to offer.

The correct way to ensure proper attention to any matter in question would be to contact the company and to honestly inquire as to the companys overall customer services polices.  Instead the consumer has decided to write his version of the instance with some pretty incredible adaptations.

CM Builders would never allow ANY employee to lie or defraud a customer or consumer in anyway what so ever.    CM builders take great steps and have measures in place to prevent such occurrences such as the following:

1.    All contracts are brought into the office the following day to be reviewed and confirmed to be profitable and to ensure that the signatures are correctly placed on the contract.   A failure to do so results in a bad contract which is not in the best interest of the consumer or the company.

2.    A Customer Service Representative then contacts the customer the following day to ensure that the auditor was on time and professional.

3.    The Customer Service Representative then goes over the details, terms and payments with the customer.  The customer then has a second opportunity to verify all products, services and prices with the third party.

4.    The Customer Service Representative the signs the contract advising the company management that all parties have a fair and equitable agreement.  It is only after this process that any work is scheduled to start.

Instead, the customer spent a total of five hours with the salesman and auditor; and at the end of the evening   he did a PERSONAL search on the salesmans past and did not like what he found.

When CM Builders did get the contract the next day, it went to the Customer Service Representative for verification.  When the representative contacted the customer, the customer alerted her as to what he had decided to do and that he was misled by the auditor.  We quickly canceled his contract and pulled our auditor into the office to inquire as to his side of the story and the appropriate actions were taken.

If the Customer would have given the company a phone call or let us know any of his concerns we would have handled the matter immediately.   Instead the customer writes a letter to rip off Report and accuses the COMPANY of treating him badly, when in fact he never tried to make contact with the company before he took any action.

We deeply regret   his newly formed opinion of our company.  We as a company have measures to prevent this treatment and would like any potential new consumers to know that this is not the way our company operates.  This customer sent this letter to Ripoffreport.com before anyone could help him or satisfy his needs.  We are a great company and have many references from satisfied and happy customers to stand behind us.  This is a mark on our reputation that could have been avoided and handled with professionalism and class, IF we would have been contacted at the time of the incident.  The customer asked us not to contact him in his letter to cancel so we will respect and honor that wish.    All we ask is that before taking such drastic measures and potentially black listing a company that employees 250 local people please call and give us a chance to show what kind of company they truly are.
