Colortyme liars, liars, liars, liars! Ripoff! Woodbridge Virginia
october of 2004,we rented some bedroom furniturefrom colortyme. We always kept our payment current,we would even call them to pay by credit card if we could'nt make it to the store on time. In february we missed a few payments,my husband worksout of town and sometimes he's gone days at a time,which means when they called during their business hours nobody is home. two weeks ago the number showed up on my caller id. i answer it, a policeman was on the phone calling from their store. he told me that my husband was going to be arrested for GRAND LARCENY if the matter was'nt resolved in 1 hour.
I called the store manager back,and asked if he couldrestart the agreement in my name,he said yes but i still would need to pay the 500 dollars that was owed.now if he was rerenting the furniture to someone else they would'nt have to pay someone elses bill. plus,if we are restart it,it suppose to be a new customer agreement. anyway, we made arrangements for them to come and get the furniture on saturday feb.19 at 5:00 pm they did'nt show up until 6:15 pm so it must've not been that important to them.my husband now has to turn himself in to the prince william county police department and they still got their property back but the officer said they already filed the warrant before the stuff was returned, and they still want us to pay colortyme 500 dollars.
so i guess this means if you owe anybody or anyplace 250 dollars or more thats grand larceny,so make sure you pay your utilities or it will be grand larceny if you owe the company money(being sarcastic)now i have to get a lawyer to fight this,as thepolice officer said,felony.this was suppose to be a civil matter, but not in the commonwealth of virginia. did i mention they charged my credit card without us knowing(unauthorized use)commonwealth says that iso.k. to do.do not rent from virginia colortyme or rent-a-center.(colortyme is owned by rent-a-center).

First of all we are not liars and cheats ad yes some of the colotymes are owned but r-a-c but most r franchised. my philosophy is if u cant afford it dont try an steal it cause we will prosocute and least my company will turn it bak in, we dont lie we dont steal we simply sue if u try and steal our stuff

First, I would like to challenge the misnomer that Colortyme is owned by Rent-a-Center. That is COMPLETELY incorrect. Rent-a-Center stores are run by the RAC corporation and Colortyme stores are franchised. 2nd. I would like to ask everyone that complains about the rent-to-own industry on here to tell the ENTIRE truth. Telling 1/2 truthes are the same thing as lies. Daniyel, When you don't pay for a product that you aquired but is still owned by someone else that is theft...PLAIN AND SIMPLE. There are many states that have "Possession of stolen rental property" laws. If the 'aggregate" value of the property is over a certain dollar amount it is a felony. When you asked if the Manager could re-write the contract in your name doesn't negate the fact that you and your husband still owed past due rent on the merchandise. So for him/her to request that the account be brought current IS COMPLETELY ACCEPTABLE. As a ColorTyme Manager I try to help as many people as I can because I know that situations arise when people have a hard time but when it's the same people having continually hard times it's time to actually help them out and pick up our product. I can hear it now......How can that be helping someone? I'm glad you asked. If someone is always late because of "issues" then it is better for them to have one less thing to worry about. In my store my policy is that if I call you and don't get a response in 3 days I am going to send my drivers out to see how you are and if needed do a pick up. COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR MANAGERS !!
