While shopping around for the best price in obtaining dentures, my mother saw a road sign advertising a Free Denture Consultation at Cosmetic Denture Clinic. This little clinic is located off the main road and boasts the best dentures in Oklahoma.

She went inside and inquired about the free consultation, becausue of yet, she was not sure of getting dentures and knew that they would cost quite a bit. After her "free consultation" the reception told her how she would like to pay.

My mother, being highly-anxiousl, started to panic and told the receptionist she wasn't sure about getting the dentures. The receptionist became toward her and demanded that she pay using cash, check, or credit card. My mother, not having any cash on her and she doesn't like writing checks to just anywhere except for only paying bills, rummaged through her purse to find a credit card. She said she felt as though they weren't going to let her leave until she paid at least 50% of the total of the dentures.

The 50% amount came to 845.00. This is a lot to my mother after figuring that the second half would total to the same amount. But get this, she was told first, that she would be only charged 150.00 for the doctor's visit or something (wait a minute! Isn't this the free consultation??)

Anyway, the next month, she gets her credit card statment and she finds that the 845.00 (50% of the total cost) is charged to her credit card, BUT, this card only had a limit of 700.00, so her balance is wiped out and she also charged an over-the-balance fee.

She has gone back several time asking the doctor to please credit the amount back because she does NOT want the dentures, and she has phoned, emailed, faxed, and even notified the Better Business Bureau of Tulsa, OKla of this shady practice.

Mr. Pedro M. Soto, the denturist, has refused to any kind of refund but when the BBB of Tulsa dropped Cosmetic Denture Clinic from its membership rolls, and requested that CDC shape up, finally, Dr. Soto answered with a very rude letter that he will refund at least 422.50 back to my mother because, supposedly he sends the wax work to New York and has to keep some of the money that my mother paid for expense cost, whatever. Mind you, he sent the waxwork to New York to be made after my mother told him she didn't want them. And get this, he had them made into steel, which is the most expensive type of denture.

I am writing this because I want everyone out there to know that this Dr. from South America is practicing something shady in his clinic.

According to The BBB Website, this company has had only 3 complaints and all have been resolved. BBB reported that this business has a SATISFACTORY record for the past 36 months. I will gladly do business with this company when the time comes.

The policy in my office has always been no charge for consultation. Only if the patient decide to go with the work, has chosen the type of denture and an impression is taken, then 50% of the cost of the denture is due at that time. I do not recall the patients name but do recall the circumstances. Out of thousand of satisfied patients, it is easy to recall a complain.

The patient came by herself, was examined and given the different prices, she decided to go with one of the better dentures. At that time, the impression was taken and she assisted in selecting the shade of her teeth. As the policy of the company, 50% payment was due. Had she decided not to do any work, there would have been no charge. People leave my office surprised when they come in for consult only, and no charge is put on them. She was treated no different.

When it came time for the payment, she did not have the full amount, some she paid by cash or check I do not recall, and she paid part on credit (which we had to try several of her cards to get approval with the exception of one they were declined) but still left a balance due. She promised to come the next day to pay the balance of the 50%. Her credit card was never charged the amount her daughter stated. The patient came the next day with the balance due for the 50% agreed with a different credit card. In addition we scheduled her next appointment. a week later, one's she missed her appointment, she called and told me that when she got home, her spouse was not in agreement of the purchase and he wanted her money back. She came to the office 2-3 weeks later with her daughter asking for the refund. That is the only time the daughter can truly say what happened.

I have a lab on premisses, the work is started immediately, so I had already an expense on my hand. That is the only reason why I agreed on 50% refund to her. The BBB did not cancel my membership, you can call the BBB to confirm this. I decided not to renew my membership with them. The BBB is not free. As to me being from South America should have no bearing, since I am a US citizen and received my doctorate in denturitry in the USA.

The Dr. finally refunded my mother 50% of what she paid but only that amount because he claims that he sent the wax bite to New York and incurred expenses. Bull!

As we found out, he went on a very nice vacation during the whole time my mother tried to get her money back, and he is still a member of the Better Business Bureau.
